    Abstract: A curable, aqueous film-forming composition is provided that includes a polymeric binder comprising reactive functional groups, a crosslinking agent having at least two functional groups that are reactive with the functional groups of the polymeric binder, and a copolymer flow control agent comprising at least 30 mol % of residues containing alternating residues from a donor monomer and from an acceptor monomer. The copolymer contains at least 15 mol % of an isobutylene type donor monomer. Components (a) and (b) are substantially hydrophobic and are prepared as an aqueous dispersion comprising polymeric microparticles, prepared by mixing components (a) and (b) together under high shear conditions. A multi-component composite coating composition is also provided, comprising a base coat deposited from a pigmented film-forming composition and a transparent topcoat applied over the base coat. The topcoat is deposited from the film-forming composition described above.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a novel method of preparing a polymerizate, which includes the step of polymerizing a two-component composition, which includes: a first component containing at least one polycyanate reactant having at least two functional groups selected from isocyanate, isothiocyanate and combinations thereof, the polycyanate reactant being the reaction product of: a polythiol monomer having at least two thiol groups; and a polycyanate monomer having at least two functional groups selected from isocyanate, isothiocyanate and combinations thereof; and a second component containing at least one polyamine reactant having at least two functional groups selected from primary amine, secondary amine and combinations thereof. The molar equivalent ratio of (NCO+NCS) groups from the first component to (—NH2+—NH—) groups from the second component is from 0.5 to 100. The present invention is also directed to polymerizates prepared according to the method of the present invention.

    Abstract: A process for coating a substrate is provided which includes the following steps: (a) applying a waterborne base coat composition to a surface of the substrate; (b) applying infrared radiation at a power density of 1.5–30.0 kW/m2 and a first air stream simultaneously to the base coat composition such that a pre-dried base coat is formed upon the surface of the substrate; and (c) applying a second air stream in the absence of infrared radiation to the base coat composition such that a dried base coat is formed upon the surface of the substrate. Various embodiments of the invention are disclosed including continuous, batch, and semi-batch processes, which may include additional process steps, such as subsequent application of a topcoat. The process may be used to coat a variety of metal and polymeric substrates, for example, those associated with the body of a motor vehicle.

    Abstract: Provided is a process for forming metallized vias in a substrate including the steps of (I) applying to an electroconductive substrate an electrodepositable coating composition onto all exposed surfaces of the substrate to form a conformal dielectric coating; (II) ablating a surface of the dielectric coating to expose a section of the substrate; (III) applying a layer of metal to all surfaces to form metallized vias in the substrate. Also disclosed are processes for fabricating a circuit assembly which include the application of an electrodoepositable coating composition onto exposed surfaces of the substrate/core to form a conformal dielectric coating thereon. The electrodepositable coating composition includes a resinous phase dispersed in an aqueous phase, where the resinous phase has a covalently bonded halogen content of at least 1 percent by weight. The dielectric coating derived therefrom has a low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss factor.
