  • Patent number: 5135489
Abstract: A pre-slit injection site (34) includes a housing (40) with a flow path therethrough. A first end (42) of the housing (40) carries a pre-slit septum (52). One form of a blunt cannula (98), usable with the injection site (34), carries a locking member (100). When the pre-slit injection site (34) slidably receives the blunt cannula (98), the locking member (100) latches to the injection site (34) and creates a mechanically coupled unit. Another form of the cannula (280) includes a tube having a tapered distal end region (298) and having elongate discharge slots (294) for reducing contact surface area and for directing the flow laterally out of the cannula. The cannula may also include a rounded lead post (330), an annular barb (394), and axially oriented grooves (268). A blood sampling system utilizing an in-line pre-slit injetion site (492) and a shielded blunt cannula (512).

  • Patent number: 4981467
Abstract: An infusion device includes an infusion pump for delivering a liquid through an infusion conduit from a separate source of the liquid into a patient, a bubble detector for detecting the presence of an air bubble in the infusion conduit, and control circuitry responsive to the bubble detector for determining if the size of the air bubble is unacceptable. The control circuitry is configured to determine if during the time the air bubble is detected it advances a distance indicative of the unacceptable size, one embodiment counting the steps of a linear peristaltic infusion pump for that purpose.

  • Patent number: 4962757
Abstract: The present invention provides a device for securing a catheter or other tubing to a patient by means of suturing. The device comprises an adhesive backed strip having a first portion and a second portion defined by a fold line centered between the first and second portion along a transverse axis of the strip. Preferably, each portion has two holes formed therein with a channel provided between the holes along an axis parallel to the fold line. Thus, when the strip is folded along the fold line over a catheter or tubing, the channel of the first portion overlies the channel of the second portion forming a single channel within which the catheter or tubing is positioned, and the holes of the first portion overlie the holes of the second portion providing a hole on each side of the catheter or tubing to serve as a suture site.
