  • Patent number: 5474831
Abstract: A board for use in constructing exterior floors has a rounded or curved convex top surface to shed water, and a complementally shaped rounded or curved concave bottom surface for nesting engagement with the top surface of an adjacent board so that a plurality of the boards may be stacked in stable relationship. The radius of curvature of the rounded top surface is such that a floor formed by a plurality of the boards placed side-by-side provides a comfortable surface on which to stand and walk. In a modification, the bottom surface has a plurality of stress-relief channels formed therein to prevent cupping or warping of the board.

  • Patent number: 5463727
Abstract: A window system wherein lower level screens display a reduced size iconic representation of a menu screen. The depression of determined keys or key combinations enables the user to scan the menu in an iconic representation as well as to select the window corresponding to the position of the cursor. The reduced size iconic menu representation may be associated with descriptive text. The system permits selection of new window without the necessity of returning to the menu at the next higher window level. Icons may also be provided to enable skipping of menu levels, to avoid the necessity of returning to a previous menu.

  • Patent number: 5460306
Abstract: A lockable fishing rod holder includes an elongate tubular member which may attached to the outside of a vehicle for supporting a fishing rod in a generally upright position, and a lockable sleeve rotatably engaged on the tubular member. The sleeve and tubular member have longitudinally extending slots therein which may be placed in registry with one another to permit the mounting bracket for the reel on the fishing rod to be moved through the slots lengthwise of the tubular member, and which may be placed out of registry with one another to prevent movement of the mounting bracket through the slots, thereby locking the fishing rod to the holder and preventing its unauthorized withdrawal from the holder. A lock may be engaged between the tubular member and sleeve to prevent relative rotational movement therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5458521
Abstract: A storage container for use in a child's room to store toys or other items, wherein the container includes removable components that may be assembled to and removed from the container to form different objects, such as vehicles, animals, and the like, thereby making the container, itself, an entertaining and educational toy. At least some of the components of the combined storage chest and toy may be used interchangeably to make a plurality of different objects, thereby minimizing the number of pieces that must be manufactured to form a plurality of different objects.

  • Patent number: 5458411
Abstract: An inexpensive, strong, and easy to assemble display shelf unit made from folded blanks of corrugated liner board, includes a base member having a back panel with side panels extending forwardly from opposite edges thereof. Each side panel has a plurality of flaps on its free edge folded inwardly and rearwardly alongside the respective side panel to define a plurality of generally vertically aligned pockets. A plurality of shelf units extend between the side panels and are made from folded blanks of corrugated liner board. Each shelf unit has a downturned flap on its opposite end engaged in a respective pocket to support the shelf units on the base. Shelf supports are engaged between adjacent shelf units at approximately their midportion to reinforce the shelf units.

  • Patent number: 5450748
Abstract: A simple, compact and inexpensive chassis dynamometer capable of performing a multiplicity of tests and of simulating a variety of conditions, including wind resistance, weight of the vehicle and grade or slope of a road, includes first and second pairs of rolls for supporting the tires of a vehicle to be tested. An electric drive motor is connected with the rolls to drive them, and a single flywheel and associated eddy current motor are connected with the rolls to impart various levels of apparent inertia to the rotational movement of the rolls for thereby simulating the various conditions encountered by a vehicle travelling on a road. The frame is of open construction and the drive motor, eddy current motor, flywheel, rolls and associated components are confined within the periphery of the frame. The open construction of the frame simplifies the apparatus and enables maintenance and repair to be performed in situ.

  • Patent number: 5398871
Abstract: A container for bulk material such as pet litter is defined by four walls and a bottom wall. The top of the container is provided with a carrying handle and a pour spout. During shipping and storage the pour spout is closed to prevent spillage of material from the container, but when it is desired to dispense material from the container the pour spout is unfolded to an open position. In a preferred embodiment the container is made from corrugated cardboard, and the pour spout is formed by perforated diagonal fold lines in an end flap and the adjacent side flaps. The size of the flaps and the placement of the fold lines confines the pour spout to one end of the top of the container, and the resultant pour spout has a generally triangularly shaped bottom wall and upstanding side walls, whereby accurate control can be maintained over pouring of the material from the container.

  • Patent number: 5394667
Abstract: A flooring system in which flooring boards are held to an underlying support structure by use of clips that eliminate the need for fasteners extended through the flooring boards. In a preferred form of the invention, the clips have a barbed projection that is adapted to extend into a groove formed in the bottom of the flooring board to grip the board and hold it to the support structure. With this form of the invention flooring boards may be secured to a support structure simply by fastening the clips to the support structure and then pressing the boards into place on the clips. In another form of the invention, the clip is slidably attached to the support structure so that it can slide along the support structure, thereby enabling the boards to be moved toward one another after assembly to the support structure for reducing any gaps or spaces between adjacent boards.

  • Patent number: 5390836
Abstract: A combination unit of at least one canister and a mount is provided herein. The novel mount includes at least two laterally-spaced apart a base for securement to a selected surface. The base includes at least two laterally-spaced part angularly-upwardly-projecting support arms projecting from the base, and an upper, pivotally mounted, resiliently-sprung, e.g. spring biased lid. The receptacle is provided with two laterally-spaced apart depression slots which are adapted to mate with the two laterally-spaced apart support arms. A dispensing opening in the receptacle is adapted to be sealed automatically upon fitment of the receptacle with respect to the mount by actuated pivoting of the lid with respect to the mount by contact of a surface on the receptacle with a depending lever on the lid.

  • Patent number: 5384756
Abstract: A combined timepiece and identification device (10, 50) contains personal identification and/or medical information about the person wearing the device. The device includes a housing (13, 51) in which first and second panels (30, 31 or 58, 59) are hingedly mounted for movement between closed positions stored in the housing and exposed positions generally parallel to one another outside the housing at opposite ends thereof. One of the panels carries a piece of microfilm (38, 60) containing the information, and the other panel carries a lens (39, 61) adapted to focus on the microfilm when the panels are in their opened positions outside the housing. The timepiece (11, 50) comprises an openable cover (20, 63) for the housing so that the panels are enclosed and protected when the cover is closed. Springs (36, 37 or 71, 72) urge the panels toward their opened, unfolded positions when the cover is opened.
