    Abstract: A radially-extending arm is adapted to rotate within a stream of first fluid flowing thereacross. In one embodiment, the arm comprises a plurality of lands located at different radial distances from the axis of rotation, and a port located on each land is operatively coupled to a source of a second fluid. The second fluid is sprayed from the rotating arm into the stream of first fluid that flows across the lands, and is thereby atomized. In another embodiment, the arm comprises a land stepped into the trailing edge thereof, and a port for injecting the second fluid is located on the land. In another embodiment, the land comprises a groove located between the port and an associated riser surface stepped into the trailing edge. In another embodiment, the arm comprises a port in the trailing edge thereof from which the second fluid is injected, and a groove is located on the trailing edge in a radially increasing direction from the port.

    Abstract: A part that is subject to at least a cyclic thermal stimulus is numerically simulated to determine extremum states of stress therein that would be suitable for an associated life cycle test. The assembly of the part in a fixture is then numerically simulated to determine a part holding condition by the fixture, and first and second test rotational speeds of the part and fixture as necessary to create states of stress in the part that are comparable to the extremum states of stress. The part is assembled in the fixture in accordance with the part holding condition, and the fixture and part are rotated in accordance with a control schedule by which the rotational speed thereof is isothermally cycled between the first and second test rotational speeds for a predetermined number of cycles so as to simulate a cyclic stress condition in the part that is representative of a life cycle test.

    Abstract: A lever is adapted to rotate about a first pivot at a first location responsive to a tension load from a webbing applied to an attachment pivoted or arcuately slotted about a second location. Tension load is reacted by a spring against a reaction element, and is sensed by either a displacement sensor or a force sensor. The sensed load range can be limited by a stop that engages the lever. The anchor bolt can be utilized as a stop in cooperation with a slot in the lever, wherein the lever is adapted to rotate about a stud depending from the reaction element. A tang portion of the lever engages a slot of a slide, and the displacement of the slide caused by a rotation of the tang reacted by springs at the ends of the slide is measured by a magnetic field sensor on the reaction element in cooperation with a pair of magnets on the slide.

    Abstract: A cylinder locking device for use in a clamp. The cylinder locking device includes a cylinder member and a first end cap on one end thereof and a second end cap on another end thereof. A piston is arranged within the cylinder member and a piston rod is engaged with the piston. The piston rod is capable of movement with respect to the piston. The cylinder rod lock device also includes a plunger contacting the second end cap. A spacer contacting the second end cap is also included in the locking device. The locking device also includes at least one locking arm contacting the spacer. The locking device also includes a mounting plate contacting the locking arm and a fastener on an opposite side thereof. The cylinder locking device will be capable of locking the cylinder in a fully retracted position and a fully engaged position.

    Abstract: An anchor plate operatively coupled to a seat belt incorporates a slot that slideably engages an anchor bolt, which is biased therein by a spring. A tension in the seat belt causes a deflection of the spring and an associated motion of the anchor bolt in the slot, which is sensed by a proximity sensor on the anchor plate. In another aspect, a carriage is adapted to slide relative to a bracket, and a first spring is operative between the carriage and the bracket so as to bias the carriage relative to the bracket in a direction opposite to a first direction. Either the bracket is operatively coupled to a vehicle frame with an anchor bolt and the seat belt operatively engages the carriage, or vice versa. A tension in the seat belt, when reacted by the anchor bolt, causes an associated motion of the carriage in the first direction, which is sensed by a displacement sensor.

    Abstract: An occupant detection system comprises a weight sensor and an electric field sensor, each operatively coupled to a seat. The electric field sensor generates an electric field from at least one electrode in the seat bottom of the seat, provides for generating a response to an influence of the occupant thereupon, and is adapted to provide for discriminating from the response a seated infant or child seating condition from another seating condition. If a measure of weight from the weight sensor is less than a threshold, or if a seated child seating condition is detected by the electric field sensor, then a signal processor provides for disabling an associated restraint actuator. The electric field sensor may comprise a plurality of electrodes over separate first and second regions of differing proximity to a seated infant or child, or at least one electrode in cooperation with a shield or void over at least one of the regions.

    Abstract: A molded tooth design of generally pyramidal form made of various hard grit materials for use on a grinding wheel for grinding non-metal materials. The tooth structure generally includes a raked face having a neutral to positive rake angle that terminates to a sharp point. The tooth structure also includes on the raked face edge portions below the point extending from both sides thereof having a predetermined clearance angle to increase penetration and reduce friction of the tooth during the grinding process. The tooth structure may also include at a top end of the rake face a truncated clearance surface which will produce a wider cutting edge that is flat, for use in attacking the work surface of the work piece being ground. The rake face of the tooth generally may also be formed to have positive rake in the truncated surface.

    Abstract: An inflator 10 of a vehicle occupant protection system contains an elongated housing 12 having a plurality of gas exit orifices 14 spaced along the length thereof. An ignition body 30 and propellant 16 are provided in lengths substantially equivalent to the length of the housing 12 wherein the ignition body 30 is placed in physical contact with the propellant body 16 for all or most of their respective lengths. Once the ignition body 30 is ignited upon a crash event, resultant uniform ignition and combustion across the length of the propellant 16 results in uniform gas generation and uniform inflation of an airbag 26, wherein the airbag 26 is at least substantially coextensive with and in fluid communication with the housing 12. Preferred mixtures of propellant 16 contain silicone, a perchlorate oxidizer, and a coolant.

The disclosed coating system is prepared from the reaction of an isocyanate component and an amine terminated resin blend component. These phenolic/polyurea co-polymers are characterized as having significantly improved chemical resistance and lower moisture vapor transmission through the coating system over conventional polyurea elastomer coating systems, thus making the coatings suitable for highly corrosive environments.

Granulated oxidizer is then added over the top of the silicone and allowed to disperse therein. A gas generator 10 assembled in this manner provides more predictable burn rates of a gas generant composition 26 and therefore more predictable performance of the gas generator 10.
