  • Patent number: 8324569
Abstract: An MS analysis is performed for each micro area within a specified mass analysis area on a sample. Based on the data obtained by this analysis, a distribution image of a specified m/z ratio of m/z range is created and displayed on a display screen (S10-S14). When an operator selects a substance of interest on the displayed image and indicates its m/z (S15), one or more micro areas in which the MS spectrum intensity at the specified m/z is equal to or higher than a threshold are extracted, and an MS/MS analysis using the m/z of the substance of interest as the precursor is performed on the extracted micro areas (S26 and S27). An average MS/MS spectrum is calculated from the MS/MS spectrum data obtained for those micro areas (S28), and the substance of interest is identified based on the information relating to the peaks appearing on the average MS/MS spectrum (S19).

  • Patent number: 8325562
Abstract: A survey method giving improvements in weapons fire location systems is disclosed. In an urban system with a distributed array in the midst of many buildings that block signal paths or create echoes, methods are provided to measure signal propagation. A survey or tour of the covered region uses a moving signal source to probe propagation inside the region. Survey results may indicate where more or fewer sensors are needed. Survey results plus current measured noise gives prediction of instantaneous system sensitivity. In addition, multipath propagation may be used to determine a location even when only one or two sensors detect the signal. In such exemplary cases, triangulation may be replaced or augmented by pattern recognition. Further, signals of the survey need not be acoustic impulses such as gunfire, but may be RF signals, or coded continuous signals so that gunfire-like sounds would not disturb citizens in the area.

  • Patent number: 8326271
Abstract: Information that is no longer valid due to the passage of time is not provided to a user. When a stock price information server acquires updated stock price information from a securities market network, a message that instructs that a predetermined application be started up and to which a term of validity has been attached is sent to a user terminal over a paging channel via an SMS server. When the user terminal receives the message, it determines whether or not the message is within the term of validity, and if it determines that the message is within the term of validity, starts up the instructed application from among a plurality of applications that are stored. The stock price information server then sends to the user terminal the stock price information that is requested by the started up application.

  • Patent number: 8324357
Abstract: A universal detection system based on allosteric aptamers, signal amplification cascade, and eye-detectable phrase transition. A broadly applicable homogeneous detection system is provided. It utilizes components of the blood coagulation cascade in the presence of polystyrene microspheres (MS) as a signal amplifier. Russell's viper venom factor X activator (RVV-X) triggers the cascade, which results in an eye-visible phase transition—precipitation of MS bound to clotted fibrin. An allosteric RNA aptamer, RNA132, with affinity for RVV-X and human vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF165) was created. RNA132 inhibits enzymatic activity of RVV-X. The effector molecule, VEGF165, reverses the inhibitory activity of RNA132 on RVV-X and restores its enzymatic activity, thus triggering the cascade and enabling the phase transition. Similar results were obtained for another allosteric aptamer modulated by a protein tyrosine phosphatase. The assay is instrumentation-free for both processing and readout.

  • Patent number: 8324535
Abstract: A ceramic heater comprising a rod-like ceramic member in which a metallized layer is formed on at least a part of an outer surface of the ceramic member, and a tubular metal fitting in which at least a part of the ceramic member is inserted, the inner surface of the tubular metal fitting and the metallized layer being brazed through a brazing member. The ceramic member has a small diameter portion in a region which is located closer to a first end of the ceramic member than the metallized layer and which is inside the tubular metal fitting. A part of the space between the small diameter portion and the inner surface of the tubular metal fitting is filled with the brazing member, the inner surface facing to the part of the small diameter. Consequently, even under severe conditions, such as a high temperature and/or a high pressure, a highly durable brazing structure, such as the ceramic heater, including a brazed portion which has high welding reliability can be obtained.
