  • Patent number: 6373570
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for screening diverse arrays of materials are provided. In particular, techniques for rapidly characterizing compounds in arrays of materials in order to discover and/or optimize new materials with specific desired properties are provided. The substrate can be screened for materials having useful properties, and/or the resulting materials can be ranked, or otherwise compared, for relative performance with respect to useful properties or other characterizations. In particular, systems and methods are provided for screening a library of magnetic materials for their bulk magnetization, saturation magnetization, and coercivity by imaging their individual optical Kerr rotation, screening a library of dielectric materials for their dielectric coefficients by imaging their individual electro-optical rotation and screening a library of luminescent materials by imaging their individual luminescent properties under a variety of excitation conditions.

  • Patent number: 6296298
Abstract: A structural reinforcement member for reinforcing a wheel well area of an automobile includes a carrier and a load distributing medium supported by the carrier. The carrier also may include a reinforced protrusion, two reinforced openings, and an outwardly extending flange. The flange includes a reinforced raised portion having a shape similar to that of the flange. The load distributing medium is a structural foam and preferably an epoxy-based resin. The preferred load distributing medium is L5206, L5207, L5208, or L5209 structural foam commercially available from L&L Products of Romeo, Mich.

  • Patent number: 6293477
Abstract: A fluid collection and distribution system (irrigator) configured from a flexible or semi-flexible material which can conform to various sizes and shapes of terrain. According to various embodiments of the irrigator, seep holes may be provided. Additionally, the irrigator may be configured from a porous material. In various embodiments, the irrigator contains through holes for various plant life to take root through and for facilitating drainage. The irrigator may have multiple, distinct passages for the collection and/or distribution of multiple fluids and or gases. In addition, a irrigator forming device is provided for forming the irrigator. Still further, an irrigator cutting device is provided for customizing and repairing the irrigator.

  • Patent number: 6263635
Abstract: A tube reinforcement assembly is designed to reinforce complex tube structures, such as those having bends and/or varying cross-sectional areas. The assembly includes a plurality of modular pillars, each having a structural foam coating. The modular pillars are grouped together with resilient retaining mechanisms or by an external positioning mechanism to form an assembly having a resiliently variable cross-sectional area. When the assembly is placed inside a tube structure, the pillars are squeezed together to fit around bends or in areas having smaller cross-sectional areas in the tube structure. When the assembly reaches an area in the tube structure having a larger cross-sectional area, the resilient connection between the pillars allow the pillars to separate and fill the extra space, holding the assembly in place temporarily. Once the reinforcement assembly is in a selected area, the structural foam is expanded to hold the assembly in place permanently and reinforce the tube structure at that point.

  • Patent number: 6177105
Abstract: The present invention discloses compositions and methods for rejuvenating human skin by stimulating growth of new collagen. The topically applied compositions contain live yeast cell derivative (LYCD), and one or more natural skin supplements that, it is believed, work synergistically to create new collagen, which improves the appearance and texture of skin. A number of compositions are disclosed including formulations for an oxygenating serum, a moisturizing cream, and a facial peel. These compositions can be used in concert as part of a skin rejuvenation system.
