  • Patent number: 6985831
Abstract: A field instrument and system for obtaining pressure, flow and temperature data from a facility. The field instrument includes an enclosure having an opening therein. An integrated analog sensor is sealingly contained within the opening. The field instrument further contains an external analog sensor. An analog to digital converter converts the analog signals to digital readings. An external digital sensor is also provided, with the digital output being communicated through a second opening within the enclosure. A control member that receives, stores and processes the digital readings is positioned within the enclosure. A communication module is included to transmit the digital readings to a remote computer. The communication module allows for two way communication between the field instrument and remote computer. The remote computer may be a server that allows for access by many users. The communication module also allows for locally accessing the digital readings via a serial port to a local terminal.

  • Patent number: 6896064
Abstract: A downhole packer for providing a seal in a well bore to allow integrity testing of the well bore. The packer is set by a sleeve movable on a body of the packer being set down on a formation in the well bore. Movement of the sleeve compresses one or more packing elements. The packer further includes a by-pass channel which allows fluid to pass through the tool as it is run in the well bore, and brushes or scrapers for cleaning the well bore and preparing the location for the packer elements to be contacted upon.

  • Patent number: 6777940
Abstract: Well logging apparatus and methods for determining formation resistivity at multiple (>3) depths of investigation. At least one transmitter antenna and at least two receiver antennas are mounted in a logging tool housing, on substantially a common axis. The antennas are untuned coils of wire. Electromagnetic energy is emitted at multiple frequencies from the transmitter into the formation. The receiver antennas, which are spaced apart from each other and from the transmitter, detect reflected electromagnetic energy. Formation resistivity at multiple depths of investigation is determined using only phase differences in the reflected energy at the different frequencies, minimizing false indications of invasion due to mismatch of vertical response with attenuation measurements and also permitting correcting for the effects of varying dielectric constant of the formation.

  • Patent number: 6735926
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a plurality of interconnected vials with a mold. The mold includes a first slide and a second slide. The method comprises contracting the first slide and the second slide so that a plurality of cavity profiles linked together by a plurality of arms is formed. A plurality of core pins is placed within the plurality of cavity profiles so that the core pins are freestanding. A plastic fluid is injected about the plurality of core pins to form a plurality of interconnected vials. The plurality of interconnected vials are removed from the plurality of core pins. The plurality of interconnected vials are placed into a holder tray and a liquid is injected into the vials. The open ends of the vials are heat sealed in order to encapsulate the plurality of interconnected vials. The steps of heat sealing include applying heat, measuring the temperature applied, and measuring the time the heat is applied.

  • Patent number: 6651746
Abstract: A high torque and high capacity rotatable center core and floatable sealed body apparatus with universal ram applications. The apparatus includes a central core assembly, connected between a swivel on its upper end and the work string below, with the central core assembly having a central passageway therethrough. The apparatus further includes a first outer assembly, having a central bore for slidably engagement around a portion of the central core assembly. In one embodiment, a second outer assembly is included, with the second outer assembly having a central bore for slidably engaging around a portion of the central core assembly above the first outer assembly. A pair of opposing transverse bores is contained within both of the first and second outer assemblies, corresponding to a pair of transverse bores in the central core assembly.

  • Patent number: 6609569
Abstract: A downhole tool and method of operation is described for collecting fluid samples in a downhole environment. The tool is connectable on a work string and is activated by dropping a ball through the work string. On activation a sleeve arranged on the body of the tool is caused to shift from a first to a second position thereby creating a chamber between the sleeve and body. The sample fluid is drawn into the chamber as it is created and is prevented from exiting by a non-return valve. The tool locks the sleeve in the second position to fix the chamber. The sample can then be retrieved along with the tool.
