  • Patent number: 4682916
Abstract: A conical cutting insert. The insert is comprised of a body member with first and second end sections oppositely disposed from a median plane. One or both of the end sections may be provided with a cutting edge. The cutting edge is formed by the intersection of an interior outwardly tapered cutting surface and an exterior inwardly tapered flank surface. The cutting surface may be frustro-conical or one or more planar surfaces. The flank surface may be frustro-conical or one or more planar surfaces. Where planar surfaces are utilized, the cutting edges are linear. Where frustro-conical surfaces are utilized, the cutting edge is circular. A plurality of coolant flow orifices are provided to allow the flow of coolant on one or both of the flank surface and cutting surface. Chip flow grooves may be provided on the cutting surface to guide and/or break chips during the cutting operation. Lobes may be provided on the flank surface to provide a constant flank angle during the cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4643691
Abstract: An articulated doll arrangement having a head, a body, arms, upper legs, lower legs and hands. The parts of the articulated doll are interconnected to provide simulated anthropomorphic movements between various of the parts. A central connecting member extends through the hollow body means and projects from the top of the body upon which the head having a simulated neck is pivotally mounted. The remote end of the central connecting has the two upper legs pivotally mounted thereon adjacent the bottom edges of the body. A simulated shoulder joint is provided on the sides of the body adjacent the top and the arms are pivotally connected at the shoulder connecting joints. Hands are detachably mounted in the remote ends of the arms. Lower legs are pivotally connected to the upper legs at a simulated knee joint.

  • Patent number: 4584991
Abstract: This device for applying therapeutic radiation serves as a carrier for a selected radiation source that can be inserted into the device to provide a controlled intensity and location of the radiation source. The device can then be inserted into any bodily canal and oriented to bring the radiation source into close proximity to that portion of the bodily canal requiring therapeutic radiation treatment. The location of the radiation source within the device is possible because the device contains a criss-cross, non-intersecting pattern of channels internal to the device. The radiation source can be positioned at any location along any of the channels. The device can be constructed of several members so that a number of members can be connected to form a device of the desired length.

  • Patent number: 4578967
Abstract: A lock comprising a housing having a push latch bar and a deadbolt which are each extendible and fully withdrawable into the housing. The dead bolt is actuated to the two positions by an over-center spring and a lever having a relatively long arm and a relatively short arm. The short arm includes a cam follower. The lever is actuated by a cam which is turned by a key. A detent notch in one edge of the dead bolt cooperates with a locking lever pivotally mounted within the housing for actuation by the cam. The push latch bar comprises a head and tail of similar thickness but different width, joined by a body having a width similar to that of the head but a thickness less than that of the head or the tail, forming opposed shoulders on the head and the tail. A pusher bar is urged by a spring against the shoulder formed by the head. A second lever pushes against the shoulder formed by the tail to the push latch bar. The push latch may be reversed so that the door can swing in either direction.

  • Patent number: 4578037
Abstract: A skydiving simulator includes a framework (B) and a flying chamber (A) supported within the framework (B). The framework (B) is constituted by a plurality of symmetrically-positioned, inclined girders (1) the lower ends (1a) of which are bolted to a base (4), and the upper ends (1b) of which are interconnected by cross-pieces (2). The flying chamber (A) has an air inlet at the base thereof and an air outlet at the top thereof. The flying chamber (A) is made of tensioned sheet material (6). A plurality of motor/fan units (11) are provided for producing an upward stream of air within the flying chamber (A).

  • Patent number: 4559705
Abstract: Indexing overlay for computer display devices such as CRT's and plasma displays. The overlay consists of a sheet of hi-static vinyl, acetate or the like of a size to conveniently cover the display area of columns and rows of discrete displayable positions. The sheet is of a thickness so that the overlay can be electrostatically attachable to the face of the display device. A set of first indicia defined discrete columnar positions along a row. Another set of indicia break up the first indicia into discrete fields five indicia wide. One set of labeling indicia accumulatively number the columns from left to right and a second set of numbering indicia may be used to accumulatively number the rows from top to bottom. The indicia are imprinted in reverse on the back side of the sheet in black or bright color ink. The color is selected to give high contrast to the indicia against the type of display background upon which the overlay is used.

  • Patent number: 4557503
Abstract: A device for binding the marginal edge of materials is provided which takes the form of a continuous section of resilient material. The section of the device includes a pair of legs on which the closing force can be released to allow the acceptance of the materials, a spline around which both of the legs pivot to close over the edge of the materials to hold them securely by the material engaging ends of the legs when a moving means is engaged to produce a closing force. A latch is provided to lock the moving means in a position whereat the legs are closed.

  • Patent number: 4535019
Abstract: A laminated wood coupling arrangement for fabricating unitary laminated wood joints. Two sets of multiple layers of thin wood strips placed at a 90.degree. angle to each other overlap ends in alternating layers. Glue placed between all adjacent surfaces retains the laminate together. The bottom layer has two strips. One strip butts against the end of the side of the other strip. The second layer above also has two strips with one crossing over the butt joint of the first layer. The other strip in the second layer butts against the end of the side of the cross over strip. Additional layers may be added in this alternating arrangement to achieve any desired strength or aesthetic appearance.
