  • Patent number: 4793155
Abstract: A removable member, having a front surface for receiving a flexible sheet of ornamental material thereover, is attachably engageable with a backing member. A peripheral edge of the sheet is gripped and held between the engaged members. The backing member carries a post, clip, pin or other device for attachment to a selected substrate such as the human body or the clothing. The movable member is held in snap engagement with the backing member for convenient separation and changeability of the ornamental sheet material.

  • Patent number: 4794394
Abstract: An emergency vehicle proximity warning system is disclosed which includes a low power transmitter subsystem carried on board an emergency vehicle and a special purpose receiver subsystem carried on board a second vehicle. The transmitter issues a continuous stream of equally timed-spaced pulses. The receiver subsystem detects the reception or non-reception of the pulses and includes a retriggerable multivibrator having an output which assumes a first logic state when the pulses are not present and a second logic state when the pulses are present. A relay coil, which is energized only when the retriggerable multivibrator is in its second logic state, actuates a set of normally closed relay contacts which are connected into the speaker leads of the vehicle's conventional radio to interrupt the connection between the conventional vehicle radio and its speaker system when the pulses from an emergency vehicle are sensed.

  • Patent number: 4790369
Abstract: A sealed accumulator is positioned at a location remote from the conventional pressurized liquid cooling system of an internal combustion engine. An overflow conduit communicates between a high point in the system and the accumulator. A make-up conduit communicates between the accumulator and a low point in the system. A normally closed pressure valve, opening in response to system pressure exceeding a predetermined value, is in series with the overflow conduit. In series with the make-up conduit, is a normally closed one-way check valve. Minimum and maximum pressures within the accumulator are regulated respective relief valves. Optionally, a vent valve is installed at a high point for escape of air as coolant is introduced into the system.

  • Patent number: 4783016
Abstract: A roll of tape or paper is releaseably retained upon a roll holder by a flexible retention member, carried by the holder and normally outwardly biased to engage the core of the roll. A pivotally connected arm is biased to urge a bearing element at the free end thereof against the outer surface of the paper roll to check uncoiling of the paper sheet. The bearing element is automatically lifted and positioned in reponse to movement of the roll against a camming surface during attachment of the roll to the roll holder. A detachably securable auxiliary roll holder applies tape along the normally free edge of the paper sheet. Also disclosed is an auxiliary tape dispenser carried by the frame of a portable masking machine.

  • Patent number: 4774030
Abstract: An improved evaporative cooler is disclosed which includes a highly efficient air transfer system and an effective system for closing off the conditioned space from the ambient when the cooler is out of service. The air transfer system includes a vertically oriented shroud having an air intake region situated at the top, an air exhaust region situated at the bottom and an imperforate intermediate region continuously connecting the intake and exhaust regions. The intermediate region diverges smoothly downwardly, and a horizontally disposed fan is centrally disposed at the shroud bottom. The efficient intake of air into the shroud is promoted by a circumferential lip extending completely around the air intake region, the lip curling smoothly inwardly and arcuately. Effective seasonal sealing is achieved with an optional shroud sealing system supported on the shroud intake region.

  • Patent number: 4757656
Abstract: A lintel system includes a steel flange plate adapted to rest on the wall adjacent both sides of an opening to be spanned, a steel reinforcing structure integral with the flange plate and steel primary reinforcing rods welded to the reinforcing structure and extending upwardly. After the flange plate has been emplaced, two courses of masonry blocks are laid to encompass the primary reinforcing rods. Different embodiments of the invention employ different upper structures. In a first embodiment, a wooden beam directly overlays the upper plate, and each includes apertures generally aligned with and larger than the primary reinforcing rods, each of which is threaded to receive a nut along its terminal portion such that the nuts may be tightened to compress the lintel system into a rigid structure. In the second embodiment, the lintel system also includes secondary reinforcing rods welded to the lower face of the upper plate and extending downwardly into the interior space of the masonry blocks.

  • Patent number: 4752419
Abstract: A shroud, including a shield placed on either side of an evaporation pad, increases the length of travel air transit time within the pad. Pressurized water, emitted in jets from a plurality of orifices spaced along a manifold, is directed against a diffuser for dissipation and dissemination to the upper edge of the pad. The pad is wetted intermittently as the result of a timer controlling distribution of the water. An auxiliary reservoir, in combination with relocatable pump, inlet valve and pad frames, provide for alternate downdraft as side draft operation.

  • Patent number: 4743131
Abstract: A continuous paper feed system is designed for use in conjunction with a variety of tractor feed paper feed paper printers. The system comprises a blank paper storage portion which is capable of being secured to a rear portion of the surface which supports the printer. This blank paper storage portion resides generally below the support surface. A printed paper receiving portion rests on the printer for receiving printed paper and is angularly adjustable with respect to the plane of the surface upon which the printer is resting so as to accommodate situations where the printer is tilted forward.

  • Patent number: 4741534
Abstract: A multi-picture puzzle comprises a plurality of cubes. A portion of a picture is carried on each side of the cube. Each cube has a spherical chamber therein. A ball is freely movable within the chamber and forms a magnetic relationship with a tray upon which each of the cubes is placed thus removably securing the cubes in place. Such cubes may be used as status indicators for indicating the existence of one of a plurality of conditions.
