  • Patent number: 4251965
Abstract: Side panels, terminating with inwardly directed flanges extend from the vertical edges of an upright main panel to form a generally channel shaped unit. The lower edge of each side panel is spaced above the lower edges of the main panel and the flanges to receive a conventional sill. A bearing plate extends inwardly from the lower edge of each side panel to rest upon the top of the sill. The upper edges of the side panels and the flanges terminate below the upper edge of the main panel to form a ledge for supporting a conventional beam. A recess, formed in the upper corner of the main panel, accommodates the beam and has a beam attachment plate extending therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4250621
Abstract: A safety cutter blade for a rotary trimmer. The blade has a hub formed with a central opening for mounting it on the drive shaft of a rotary trimmer. Three equally angularly spaced cutting blades are formed integrally with the hub and extend outwardly from said hub. Each blade is formed with a convex rearwardly swept cutting edge which is tangential to the hub on one side of the cutting blade and a short straight forwardly swept cutting edge on the other side of each cutting blade. Either of these cutting edges is adapted to be the leading, or effective edge depending on the orientation of the blade on the drive shaft and the direction of rotation of the trimmer shaft. The safety blade is made of an elastomer reinforced with plastic fibers. A layer of coarse fabric made of threads of an organic polymer is embedded in the elastomer and intersects the cutting edges of the cutting blades.

  • Patent number: 4250622
Abstract: A safety cutter blade for a rotary trimmer. The blade has a circular hub formed with a central opening for mounting the blade on the drive shaft of a rotary trimmer. An annulus is made integral with and coplanar with the hub. A plurality of cutting teeth are formed integrally with the annulus at its periphery. Each tooth is provided with a swept convex cutting edge and a straight cutting edge on opposite sides thereof. The convex cutting edges constitute a set of negative cutting edges which force severed foliage away from the center of the blade while the straight cutting edges constitute a second set of cutting edges which are adapted to cutting short grass. Each of these sets of cutting edges is adapted to be effective when they are the leading edges of the teeth of the cutter blade which is determined by the direction of rotation of the trimmer drive shaft and the position of the blade relative thereto.

  • Patent number: 4243734
Abstract: Micro-dots carrying indicia identifying the owner of an article and the method of preparing and using such micro-dots. The micro-dots are small pieces of foil of any of several shapes with square being the preferred shape, and having an area defined by sides having an extent in the nature of 0.007 inch. Printed on the area of each dot is indicia identifying a particular owner. The method consists essentially of printing the indicia in multiple units on a large plate with the images being reduced in size by step photographing process, which results in a glass slide having the negatives of the images developed thereon. These images are transferred photographically to a piece of film of the same size which is cut into the individual dots. It is then immersed in a fluid, such as a clear resin, and applied to an article that is to be protected. The article or any part thereof with the micro-dots thereon is retrieved and examined by a microscope to identify the owner.

  • Patent number: 4240568
Abstract: A body member is detachably engageable with the brim of a liquid carrying container and includes an annular ledge which sealingly resides over the gutter of the brim. The ledge has an upstanding outer peripheral rim which redirects fluid into the container. A screen filters fluid passing from the container to a pouring spout extending radially from the ledge. A hingedly affixed closure member sealingly engages the body member for airtight storage of the liquid.

  • Patent number: 4230336
Abstract: An attachment bolt extends upwardly through a support member and threadedly engages the ball component of a coupling apparatus. A locking member extends downwardly through the ball component and cammingly engages the attachment bolt with the pitch different than the threaded engagement between the ball component and the attachment bolt. Engagement of the ball component within a complemental coupler component prevents access to and removal of the locking member.

  • Patent number: 4228823
Abstract: A protector for the threaded end of a garden hose comprising a cylindrical cap of a rigid material such as plastic and having an internal flange which engages the end of the hose. The cap is internally threaded and a tab integral with the flange is formed with an opening. A tether of a flexible material such as rubber or plastic comprises a strip having a ring integral with one end and extending inwardly from this ring are a plurality of angularly spaced projections which adapt the ring to the size of a particular hose. A tongue is integral with and normal to the other end of the strip and is formed with an orifice that aligns with the opening in the tab to receive a screw.

  • Patent number: 4224012
Abstract: A plate is carried by the blade support shaft journalled within the frame of a wind motor. The axle shaft of the blade is securable to the plate at variable distances relative the support shaft to selectively vary the offset of the blade. A primary drive element, gear or sprocket, coaxial with the axle shaft and rotatable in response to rotation of the blade, drivingly engages a driven idler element, gear or sprocket, respectively, carried by an idler shaft journalled within the plate. A planetary gear rotatable in response to the driven idler element, drivingly engages a sun gear fixed to the frame coaxial with the support shaft.

  • Patent number: 4218027
Abstract: A spindle is fixed at one end to a pedestal which projects from the front side of a base. The back side of the base is securable to a vertical or horizontal surface with the spindle being horizontal and extending through the hollow core of a roll of coiled paper sheet. The roll is retained by a projection extending radially from the cap carried at the free end of the spindle. The cap is rotatable to orient projection upwardly regardless of the mounting position of the base.

  • Patent number: 4210494
Abstract: A solar desalination system comprising a tank having a transparent cover. Salt water to be distilled is introduced into the tank at an inlet spaced from the cover while brackish or waste water is withdrawn from the tank through an outlet at substantially the same level as the inlet. A closed circuit air loop includes a tubular sparger of porous material which extends along the tank bottom in slightly spaced relation thereto. Air under pressure is delivered to the sparger at one end by a conduit passing through the end wall of the tank and a pump. Moisture-free air is introduced into the pump by a tube extending from a condenser. Vapor-saturated air is exhausted from the tank at a level between the water surface and the cover and is conveyed to the condenser through a pipe. Distilled water is taken from the bottom of the condenser. In a modified embodiment, the compressor is bypassed by a duct extending from the tube to the conduit and includes an adjustable valve.

  • Patent number: 4209099
Abstract: A kit for increasing the usable space of a closet by providing supports from which garments or comparable items are suspended. The kit comprises bars which may assume either horizontal or vertical positions in a closet, with each bar consisting of a pair of telescopic cylindrical tubes. Also included in the kit are a plurality of connectors, some of which are end connectors which connect one or both ends of a bar to spaced vertical wall or to opposed horizontal surfaces such as a floor, ceiling or shelf. These connectors maintain the tubes in assembled relation. Intersection connectors establish joints between intersecting bars. Each end connector includes at least one pair of concentric radially spaced nipples, each presenting an inner and an outer surface. The inner surface of the outer nipple snugly receives the outer surface of the outer tube and the inner surface of the inner tube is accurately fitted about the outer surface of the inner nipple.

  • Patent number: 4208065
Abstract: A base is secured to a mounting member extending from a towing vehicle and having an upstanding ball element. A retention member carried by the base is selectively movable to a position over a socket element which extends from a towed vehicle and which is detachably engaged downwardly over the ball element. The retention member limits the upward travel of the socket element and maintains engagement of the coupling. The retention member is held in position by lock means. A resilient member is disposed between the base and the retention member to prevent the retention member from rattling against the base.
