  • Patent number: 6774305
Abstract: An electrically self-grounding connector for joining end portions of fluid flow conduit sections, and processes for fabricating two embodiments of the connector. A connector formed according to one process includes an inner layer having electrically conductive, contiguous carbon ribbons, an outer layer with chopped carbon fibers, and a layer of surfacing veil between the inner and outer layers. A connector formed according to the other process has an inner layer of carbon cloth, an outer layer with chopped carbon fibers, and a layer of surfacing veil and putty between the inner and outer layers. In both connectors, highly electrically conductive carbon at the connector inner and outer surfaces acts to dissipate and neutralize electrostatic charges generated by triboelectric processes.

  • Patent number: 6696058
Abstract: Hydro-activated and/or oxygen activated aqueous, enzymatic, antimicrobials denture adhesive compositions are stabilized against enzymatic action prior to oral application of the adhesive by incorporating a thickener into the adhesive formulation so as to provide the forrmulation with an enzyme immobilizing viscosity which inhibits enzymatic action during processing and in the adhesive package. An illustrative, thickened, enzymatic adhesive with this enhancement contains glucose oxidase, glucose, lactoperoxidase and potassium thiocyanate together with a mixture of polyacrylic acid and polyvinylpyrrolidone in an amount to provide the adhesive with a viscosity of at least about 300,000 centipoises.

  • Patent number: 6441128
Abstract: A process for fluoro-oxidation of the surface(s) of an ECTFE substrate, film or three-dimensional object, and the surface-modified substrate, film or object produced thereby. The process includes exposing the surface(s) to concentrations of fluorine and oxygen for a time sufficient to increase the surface energy and thereby lower the surface contact angle sufficiently to permit bonding. The surface modification allows bonding to an adhesive with the adhesive being bondable to a plastic or metal substrate.

  • Patent number: 6355605
Abstract: A cleaning composition and method are provided for removing iron stains and scale from the external surfaces of duck decoys. An illustrative composition contains hydrochloric acid, stannous chloride, ammonium bifluoride, and water. The compositions are applied to the duck decoys with a pressurized sprayer to discolor and dislodge the stain and scale and thereafter the decoys are water rinsed with a garden hose or the like to remove the dislodged material.

  • Patent number: 6332421
Abstract: A boat fender system and a method for deploying a cylindrical fender. The system includes a U-shaped member having a spindle on which is rotatably mounted a fender, and a lateral arm portion which is detachably connected to a locking assembly attached to a boat. The method includes mounting the fender to be freely rotatable about its longitudinal axis, and maintaining the fender in a vertical orientation and in a fixed position relative to the boat so that the fender comes into rolling contact with both the boat and a mooring structure.

  • Patent number: 6214339
Abstract: Otitis externa is treated in dogs and cats by administering to the outer ear of the infected animal a dosage, effective to alleviate the symptoms of the infection, of a substantially non-aqueous, di-enzymatic therapeutic composition, in a liquid or gel fluid carrier. The composition contains an oxidizable substrate and an oxidoreductase enzyme specific to such substrate for producing hydrogen peroxide upon encountering the environment of the outer ear and further contains an iodide salt and and a peroxidatic peroxidase for interacting with the hydrogen peroxide to produce a hypoiodite biocidal agent. Any unbound water present in the composition is limited to an amount not more than about 1.0 wt. % to stabilize the composition against the production of hydrogen peroxide prior to aural application of the composition to enhance efficacy of treatment.

  • Patent number: 6193277
Abstract: A walking sole which enables a person wearing in-line skates to walk freely. The walking sole includes a U-shaped member having a longitudinal trough into which a skate's wheels are inserted, and two slidably adjustable alignment posts which are brought into pressing contact with the outer wheels. Each post is securely fixed to the base of the U-shaped member by interfacing corrugations in its bottom surface with corrugations in the base upper surface before connecting the post and base with a bolt.

  • Patent number: 6008002
Abstract: A composition and method are provided for detecting and isolating antigen associated cancer cells. The composition and method utilize an antigen specific, immunomagnetic composition as the detecting and isolating agent. An illustrative immunomagnetic composition comprises avidin or streptavidin conjugated to paramagnetic beads and further conjugated to antigen specific, biotinylated antibody. A fluidic admixture of the antigen associated cancer cells with the immunomagnetic composition in an affinity column disposed in a magnetic field produces a cancer cell immunomagnetic composition conjugate which is deposited onto the inner wall of the column.
