  • Patent number: 6509566
Abstract: An oil and gas exploration system and method for land and airborne operations, the system and method used for locating subsurface hydrocarbon deposits based upon a remote detection of trace amounts of gases in the atmosphere. The detection of one or more target gases in the atmosphere is used to indicate a possible subsurface oil and gas deposit. By mapping a plurality of gas targets over a selected survey area, the survey area can be analyzed for measurable concentration anomalies. The anomalies are interpreted along with other exploration data to evaluate the value of an underground deposit. The system includes a differential absorption lidar (DIAL) system with a spectroscopic grade laser light and a light detector. The laser light is continuously tunable in a mid-infrared range, 2 to 5 micrometers, for choosing appropriate wavelengths to measure different gases and avoid absorption bands of interference gases.

  • Patent number: 6468389
Abstract: An evaporative process employing an undulating flexible membrane (4) as an evaporative surface onto which a vaporizing gas (2) such as, but not limited to, air, contacts a liquid solution (1, 5) such as, but not limited to, water, and evaporation occurs. The membrane (4) is supported (3) with sufficient laxity to permit wavelike undulating motion of the membrane brought about primarily by the evaporative airflow (2) itself. The differential flexing and motion of the undulating membrane (4) results in a breaking and peeling away of any normally fouling scaling or plugging solids which have precipitated or accumulated on the membrane surface (4). The undulation of the flexible membrane (4) thereby providing a self cleaning action. The self cleaning action of the membrane (4) assures successful application to evaporative processes with solutions (1, 5) which are prone to scaling, fouling, plugging or solutes buildup.

  • Patent number: 6179666
Abstract: A two-way radio accessory quick connect and extension cord for attaching to a speaker/microphone in a face mask of a fire fighter or a hand held speaker/microphone held by the fire fighter. The accessory quick connect allows for rapid connection of one end of the extension cord to the top of the accessory quick connect. The accessory quick connect also provides for allowing any water to drain off the top of the two-way radio to prevent electrical shorting out of the radio. The accessory quick connect includes an adapter housing having electrical pin connectors with a circuit board therein for connecting the electronics of the adapter housing to the electronics of the two-way radio. Extending upwardly from the adapter housing is an adapter male plug. The male plug is connected to the circuit board electronics in the adapter housing. The adapter male plug is dimensioned for receipt inside a first female plug attached to one end of the extension cord. The extension cord includes a fire retardant cover.

  • Patent number: 5518002
Abstract: A portable hand held electronic spirometric device for analyzing the strength of the exhalation of a patient under a doctor's care. The electronic spirometric device is designed to sense and measure exhaled air flow rate and exhaled breath temperature, determine air flow volume, and record and display the respiratory movement of the patient for helping make medication recommendations. The spirometric device includes an electronic package mounted inside a hand held housing for computing and recording the strength, the temperature, and the volume of the exhalation along with the time and date of the exhalation. The device includes a replaceable air flow chamber mounted on the housing. A disposable mouthpiece is releasably attached to the air flow chamber. A hot wire acting as an anemometer is disposed inside the air flow chamber and provides for measuring both air flow rate and temperature.
