  • Patent number: 8308551
Abstract: A lottery game system and methodology involves, for each play of the game, a player choosing a number of player indicia from a field of the indicia. A subset of the indicia is randomly generated, and the player's indicia is compared to the subset to determine a winning game play. The number of indicia in the subsets is varied between different game plays such that a blend of the winning probabilities for each subset for all of the game plays produces a desired overall winning probability.

  • Patent number: 8306749
Abstract: Methods and systems for route summarization are described herein. The method includes generating a route from an origin to a destination, the route including a plurality of maneuvers. One or more maneuvers are removed from the plurality of maneuvers based, at least in part, upon geographic information about a selected user. A summarized route is generated that reflects the removal of the one or more maneuvers from the plurality of maneuvers such that the summarized route has fewer maneuvers than the route.

  • Patent number: 8303779
Abstract: Methods of depositing a transparent conductive oxide layer on a substrate are generally disclosed. A shield of greater than about 75% by weight molybdenum can be attached to a first surface of a substrate such that the shield contacts at least about 75% of the first surface. The shield can then be heated via an energy source to cause thermal exchange from the shield to the substrate to heat the substrate to a sputtering temperature. A transparent conductive oxide layer can then be sputtered on a second surface of the substrate at the sputtering temperature. Methods are also generally disclosed for manufacturing a cadmium telluride based thin film photovoltaic device.

  • Patent number: 8301931
Abstract: A portable time transfer device is provided to transfer accurate date/time to reader devices and, thus, the reader devices do not have to be connected to a source of accurate time. A host computing system is configured to synchronize the portable time transfer device to a network, GPS, or other source of precise (accurate) time. Once the portable time transfer device is synchronized to the accurate date/time by the host computing system, the portable time transfer device is ready to be used by reader devices or any other devices (e.g., laptops, etc.) which need to maintain accurate time regardless of the connectivity to a network or GPS.

  • Patent number: 8300387
Abstract: A capacitor assembly that is thermally and mechanically stable in high temperature environments is provided. Thermal stability is provided by enclosing and hermetically sealing the capacitor element within a housing in the presence of a gaseous atmosphere that contains an inert gas, thereby limiting the amount of oxygen and moisture supplied to the solid electrolyte of the capacitor. To provide the assembly with good mechanical stability, a polymeric restraint is also employed that is positioned adjacent to and in contact with one or more surfaces of the capacitor element. Without intending to be limited by theory, it is believed that the strength and rigidity of the polymeric restraint can help the capacitor element better withstand vibrational forces incurred during use without resulting in delamination. In this manner, the capacitor assembly is able to better function in high temperature environments.

  • Patent number: 8299778
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methodology for providing approaches to remove or reduce thermal drift of the magnetic sensitivity of Hall sensor devices, to improve the stability of resulting signals of interest. Samples of a particular signal or signals of interest having improved stability make for advantageous use in conjunction with electricity meters. At the same time, associated designs and related components have greater simplicity, for reduced complexity in implementation. Among alternative embodiments, a gating structure selected of various present alternative designs may be used to partially cover, to an intentionally selected degree, an active area of a Hall sensor, so that a zero-drift supply current value may likewise be selected so as to satisfy other criteria which may be applicable to use of the Hall sensor.

  • Patent number: 8296091
Abstract: A method and system for calibrating temperature measurement devices, such as pyrometers, in thermal processing chambers are disclosed. According to the present invention, the system includes a calibrating light source that emits light energy onto a substrate contained in the thermal processing chamber. A light detector then detects the amount of light that is being transmitted through the substrate. The amount of detected light energy is then used to calibrate a temperature measurement device that is used in the system.
