  • Patent number: 8186182
Abstract: A surge fill apparatus and method for a top load washing machine is disclosed. A top load washing machine includes a cabinet, a tub positioned within the cabinet, and a basket for receiving a wash load rotatably supported within the tub. The washing machine further includes a reservoir in fluid communication with the tub. The reservoir has the capacity to store a volume of wash fluid. The reservoir releases the volume of wash fluid into basket when the volume of wash fluid in the reservoir reaches a threshold level. In this manner, the apparatus and method of the present disclosure provides for a surge of wash fluid to be provided to the top portion of a wash load such that the top portion of the wash load can be cleaned and rinsed more efficiently.

  • Patent number: 8186950
Abstract: An aerodynamic device is provided for detection of physical conditions of wind turbine blade operation. One or more vibration sensors are mounted on the blades in an aerodynamic housing and configured to monitor a physical condition of the blades that varies in accordance with a vibration of the housing. A processor is operably coupled to the one or more vibration sensors. The processor may be configured to use the vibration frequency of a component of the blade to determine the physical condition of the blade, and generate a signal indicating the physical condition of the blade when determined.

  • Patent number: 8187697
Abstract: A cooling product (e.g., pad, bandage, headband, wrap, cloth, and so forth) that contains a gel configured to cool the skin of a body part when placed adjacent thereto is provided. The gel is contained within a composite that has two or more fibrous layers structured to provide enhanced distribution of the gel therethrough. More specifically, a first fibrous layer may rapidly distribute the gel in primarily the -z direction (direction of thickness) to a second fibrous layer, which then distributes it primarily in the -x and -y directions. The second fibrous layer may then be placed adjacent to a user's skin to provide the desired cooling. Because the gel is distributed primarily in the -x and -y directions, however, direct contact between the gel and skin is limited, thereby reducing the “sticky” feel normally associate with such gels. The cooling product is also flexible, and may be easily adapted to a body part.

  • Patent number: 8187555
Abstract: A conveyor assembly for use in a vapor deposition apparatus wherein a sublimed source material is deposited as a thin film on a photovoltaic (PV) module substrate. The assembly includes a conveyor movable in an endless loop path that includes an upper leg that moves in a conveyance direction to carry a substrate through a deposition area of the vapor deposition apparatus. A heat source is disposed relative to the endless loop path so as to heat the conveyor at a location generally after the point where substrates leave the conveyor. The heat source heats the conveyor to a temperature effective for sublimating source material from the conveyor. A cold trap is disposed relative to the endless loop path downstream of the heat source in a direction of movement of the conveyor and is maintained at a temperature effective for causing sublimated source material generated from heating the conveyor to plate out onto a collection member configured with the cold trap.

  • Patent number: 8182800
Abstract: This invention relates to high surface area materials, such as nanoparticles, that are coated with metal ions. These modified nanoparticles have active sites that bind various gases and/or odorous compounds, thereby removing these compounds from a medium such as air or water. Metal ions are adsorbed onto the surface of the nanoparticle and bound strongly to the surface. By selection of the metal ion, specific gaseous compounds and/or odorous compounds can be targeted and removed efficiently and effectively from both aqueous phase and from the air. The modified nanoparticles are useful in numerous article of manufacture for industrial and consumer use.

  • Patent number: 8177740
Abstract: An internal bladder agitator member(s), which are free to travel in the retained fluid when the bladders are in the filled state. When the bladders are not inflated, the agitator member(s) take up some of the free internal space of the bladder core, resulting in reduced retained fluid volume at the end of an infusion cycle. The free floating bladder agitator member(s) act in the dual role of elastomeric bladder support member(s) and agitator/mixer(s).
