  • Patent number: 5749168
Abstract: A fly catcher apparatus has a cylindrical body with a single fly inlet port on its wall, near the bottom thereof. A central tube holds a wick of cloth, sponge or similar liquid-permeable material. Midway up the tube are a series of regularly spaced cloth or sponge-like fly-contacting (and other insect-contacting) members, preferably colored and shaped like leaves. These are attached in fluid communication with the wick and exit out the side of the tube into the interior cavity of the body. At the top of the tube is a cup for holding odoriferous bait, in the form of decaying meat, fish or the like. One or more aroma ports allow the smell of the bait to exit out the removable cap of the cup. Additional perforations for releasing the aroma of bait decay are located on the side wall of the bait cup. The top of the wick forms one or more bait-moistening members which exit out the top or side of the tube into the cup. Moisture carried up the wick keeps the bait moist.

  • Patent number: 5687741
Abstract: A woman's panty-type undergarment provides a means of attaching a releasable, securable, and disposable female condom that can be comfortably worn for hours before anticipated intercourse, thereby providing a barrier to the entrance of male sperm and bodily fluids which may cause pregnancy or spreading of diseases such as AIDS. A resilient ovoid condom attachment member is sewn or otherwise attached to an opening in the crotch portion of the panty. The female condom is inserted into the wearer's vaginal opening and then the outer ring of the female condom is threaded through a slit aperture in the ovoid member and stretched over a circumferential head flange, whereby it is secured around a narrow annular neck that is disposed between a base plate of the attachment member and the head flange.

  • Patent number: 5671609
Abstract: A method is taught herein of providing a controlled environment for the storage of produce within a portable, standard insulated trailer cabin, wherein the following objectives are accomplished: initiated ripening; ripening; cooling and heat removal; temperature stabilization; and the loading and unloading of palletized fruit on skid-mounted rollers. The invention accomplishes within a portable elongated cabin that which heretofore has only been accomplished in refrigeration rooms built within a fixed building. Ceiling-mounted air cooling units are uniformly distributed throughout the trailer along the long edge of the palletized fruit, thus allowing the cooled and/or treated air to be drawn across the fruit pallets directly and evenly and through as short a path as practical. An air suction chamber is built into the forward part of the trailer, opposite the loading door. Suction fans are built into a thin sheet-metal wall forming this chamber.

  • Patent number: 5647938
Abstract: An apparatus automatically places postcard backings on rolls of developed photo stock. The backings are formed from a roll of bulk label stock such as that sold under the trade name AVERY. The label stock comes with an adhesive layer on its back side, which adhesive is covered by a removable backing sheet. Preferably, indicia have previously been printed on the front side of the label at regular intervals thereon, the size of the intervals corresponding to the size to which the photo postcards will be cut. The two rolls are fed to traction rollers and past a manual calibration register. The backing then is peeled off of the label stock by an automatic peeling-blade which is inserted between the adhesive and the backing. After that, the two lines of feed are led to a laminating press, where they are pressed together and permanently mated by mutual contact with the adhesive layer. The next stage is a cutter which cuts the photo/label combination at the intersections of individual photos.

  • Patent number: 5607376
Abstract: A treadmill or walker apparatus includes a mounting base, a pair of front rollers mounted fixedly on rotatable left and right front shafts which coaxially extend from a left front side to a right front side of the mounting base, a pair of rear rollers mounted rotatably on at least one rear shaft which extends from a left rear side to a right rear side of the mounting base, endless left and right foot belts engaging respectively one of the front rollers and one of the rear rollers, and a support unit disposed between the front and rear rollers to provide a supporting surface for the foot belts. The foot belts move independently and are to be treaded individually by the feet of the user, thereby preventing the action of the user's left foot from influencing the action of his right foot and vice-versa when the apparatus is in use. The apparatus may be used with a functional supporting frame that is in the form of a baby chair, a baby stroller, an exercise walker or any other suitable form.

  • Patent number: 5600927
Abstract: Strapped rebar end protector apparatus combines prior art end protectors with an elastic strap having a rebar-receiving aperture in one end and fastener means on the other. The preferred fastener is a snap-in type which enters relatively easily a snap-receiving aperture drilled in the end protector wall, but which is hard to pull out again. The device is installed by first threading the rebar end through the open rebar aperture of the strap and then threading the rebar end into the interior channel of the protector, where vertical support ribs in the protector interior grip the rebar. Provided that the elastic strap has been extended down the rebar a distance sufficient to place it under tension (a tab portion extends beyond the rebar aperture for grasping and pulling), the rebar end protector will remain in place against a more significant force than previously.

  • Patent number: 5582574
Abstract: A pressurized container is filled with pure oxygen. The apparatus, and the method of treatment provided thereby, are able to deliver oxygen to the blood of an enclosed premature neonate by means of directly diffusing molecular oxygen through the unusually permeable skin of such infants. Hyperbaric pressure, i.e., pressure substantially above one atmosphere absolute (ATA), preferably at least two ATA, is maintained in the container, which facilitates the transcutaneous delivery of oxygen to the blood. Means are included for protecting the eyes of the neonate and for performing physiological ventilation of the lungs thereof. The provision of normal tissue oxygen tensions facilitates the neurological development of the infant, thereby enhancing its long term quality of life.

  • Patent number: 5554277
Abstract: An in-line leaf trap captures the leaves and debris that are gathered by a manual or automatic suction-type swimming pool cleaner before they can enter the swimming pool's water filtering system. The leaf trap is placed in-line with the flexible hose that conducts the leaves and debris between the pool cleaner and the poolside suction connection. The in-line leaf trap is a two-piece closed container having inside a removable or integrated perforated or mesh screen debris basket. The body of the trap has two cylindrical tapered openings to mate with commonly used swimming pool cleaner hoses. The openings are oriented to ensure proper flow direction through the trap. The device floats in the pool with its top section just above the water line. The flexible hose is held floating just under the top surface of the water.

  • Patent number: 5517775
Abstract: An extruded longitudinally-pliable but uprightly rigid plastic edging strip may be affixed to the side of the outer edge of a shaped back mounting panel. The tall thin cross section of the planar strip allows its longitudinal axis to bend sideways to follow the curved edge of the shaped backing. Once in place, canvas or like fabric may be stretched over the edging strip and lie in a horizontal plane that is vertically elevated from the horizontal plane of the backing panel, whereupon the canvas will not contact the backing panel. Suitably shaped injection-molded thrust-support brackets placed at spaced horizontal intervals help stiffen the edging strip against the inwardly directed force of the stretched canvas. Alternately, the cross-section of the edging strip can be extruded in a shape which inherently resists inward deformation, so that the need for separate brackets is eliminated.
