  • Patent number: 4093745
Abstract: A non-segregating, free-flowing bath bead composition, based on prilled urea in combination with active bath components, is produced by admixing urea prills with an oily liquid emollient to distribute the emollient substantially uniformly on the prills and then adhering a powdered surfactant to the emollient-bearing prills to produce free-flowing bath beads. If desired, color can be imparted to the prills by providing moisture-containing prills and commingling the prills with a powdered, water-soluble dye prior to the distribution of the emollient thereon.

  • Patent number: 4093422
Abstract: Automotive exhaust gases, and especially the exhaust gases which have been further oxidized by a treatment in a catalytic converter, are treated by passing them through a filter containing paper coated with a calcium carbonate coating. The paper is desirably coated on both sides with heavy coatings and wound into a roll with spacers extending through the roll to permit the gases to pass therethrough. The calcium carbonate desirably constitutes at least 85% of the weight of pigments and fillers in the coating and the proportion of binder does not exceed 20% of the total weight of pigments and fillers. The acidic gases in the exhaust, and particularly the oxides of sulfur, react with the finely divided particles of calcium carbonate in the coating to form an ash which flakes off from the lower face of the roll while the gases pass upwardly through the roll.

  • Patent number: 4085161
Abstract: Nongelled, amine-functional copolymers dispersible in water with the aid of a solubilizing acid are provided by copolymerizing: (A) an ethylenically unsaturated hydroxy-functional adduct of a diepoxide having from about 1.2 to about 2.0 epoxy groups per molecule, said epoxy groups being replaced by ethylenically unsaturated groups; (B) copolymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated monomers including amine-functional monomer; and (C) a blocked ethylenically unsaturated isocyanate which preferably includes a plurality of alcohol-blocked isocyanate groups. The amine-functional polymers can be dispersed in water at a pH close to neutral, and they are particularly useful to enable corrosion-resistant coatings to be electrodeposited at the cathode and cured at a lower than usual baking temperature.

Abstract: Biological oxidation and flotation apparatus and method are disclosed for use in the treatment of sewage or other aqueous waste material by the activated sludge process. A treatment and flotation chamber is provided in which both biological oxidation and flotation take place. In some forms of the method and apparatus, a separate biological oxidation tank is also used prior to the treatment and flotation chamber. The treatment and flotation chamber includes a quiescent zone at the top of the chamber that extends horizontally through at least the downstream part of the chamber, and extends downward at least about three inches blow the surface of the contents of the chamber. The contents of the chamber below the quiescent zone are continuously recirculated, for example by pumps whose inlets lie below the quiescent zone and which transfer a part of the aqueous material under treatment to the bottom of the chamber to be employed as the shearing liquid in a bubble shearing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4083892
Abstract: Essentially solvent-free resinous coating compositions are provided which are sufficiently fluid to permit effective application, and which cure on baking at low temperature to provide hard stain- and detergent-resistant coatings. These are made by copolymerizing monoethylenic monomers including monoethylenic monomer having a functional group reactive with N-methylol functionality and selected from carboxylic acid, hydroxy and amide groups, the copolymerization being carried out in a solvent medium consisting essentially of tetrahydric adduct of propylene oxide with pentaerythritol having a molecular weight of at least about 400. The copolymer solution has added thereto an aminoplast resin to provide a stable solution in which proportions are important so that coatings can be easily applied and cured to provide the desired characteristics without liberating large amounts of volatile material.
