    Abstract: A low irritant surfactant composition particularly adapted for shampoos and other light duty cleansing applications, comprising substantially equimolar amounts of a betaine surfactant and an amine fatty alcohol sulfate or sulfonate in a high boiling water miscible, polar, organic liquid. Preferably, the betaine is of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a long chain alkyl group and R.sub.2 is a short chain alkylene group, and n is an integer from 1 to 3; and the betaine is prepared in a reaction system containing the organic liquid. The alkanolamine fatty alcohol sulfate or sulfonate is then added to the system in an equimolar amount, or preferably prepared in situ in the reaction medium by the reaction of an amine with a long chain alkyl monoester of sulfuric acid.

    Abstract: A hair spray assembly is provided to substantially limit and confine the divergence and radial projection of spray emanating from a shower head into a generally cylindrical spray zone and to substantially prevent splashing and dripping of the water spray outside of that spray zone. This invention is particularly useful for professional hair care and treatment, such as permanent waving, frosting of the hair and shampooing and structurally includes a portable nozzle having a body with a diverging mouth that defines an outlet and a tubular inlet that telescopes into a flexible hose. A shower head having an annular flange is secured to the body of the nozzle and includes an apertured disc that covers the mouth of the nozzle and a rigid rim portion that extends axially forwardly of the apertured disc. A waterproof annular skirt engages the shower head and includes a lip portion that extends axially forwardly of the rigid rim portion.

    Abstract: A method of recycling the off gas from an ozone disinfection step used with an activated sludge waste water treatment system, and apparatus for carrying out the method. The moisture is removed from a substantial portion but not all of the ozonation off gas, while the nitrogen and carbon dioxide contaminants that are contained in the off gas are left in it. The dried off gas is mixed with oxygen enriched gas from the original source, and the resulting mixture is delivered to the ozone generator for the production of more ozone. Another portion of the ozonation off gas is diverted upstream for introduction into the oxygen treatment facility of the activated sludge treatment plant. The drying of the ozonation off gas is preferably carried out by use of a two cycle self-purging dryer, with the portion of the ozonation off gas that is not delivered as a recycle component to the ozone generator utilized as the purge gas for the dryer before it is recycled upstream.
