Patent number: 7485279Abstract: Transition metal-substituted MCM-41 framework structures with a high degree of structural order and a narrow pore diameter distribution were reproducibly synthesized by a hydrothermal method using a surfactant and an anti-foaming agent. The pore size and the mesoporous volume depend linearly on the surfactant chain length. The transition metals, such as cobalt, are incorporated substitutionally and highly dispersed in the silica framework. Single wall carbon nanotubes with a narrow diameter distribution that correlates with the pore diameter of the catalytic framework structure were prepared by a Boudouard reaction. Nanostructures with a specified diameter or cross-sectional area can therefore be predictably prepared by selecting a suitable pore size of the framework structure.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2003Date of Patent: February 3, 2009Assignee: Yale UniversityInventors: Lisa Pfefferle, Gary Haller, Dragos Ciuparu

Patent number: 7119185Abstract: This invention relates generally to a novel serine/threonine protein kinase, specifically to hormonally up-regulated, neu-tumor-associated kinase (HUNK); and to the nucleotide sequence encoding it. The kinase is temporally expressed during postnatal mammary development in a spatially heterogeneous manner in certain subsets of cells, and overexpressed in a subset of primary breast cancers. The invention further relates to an analysis of a correlation between carcinogenesis and postnatal development, particularly mammary development, especially associated with parity; to methods of using the kinase, or gene encoding it, as markers, prognostic tools, screening tools and therapies, in vitro and in vivo, that are based upon that correlation; and to the regulation of pregnancy-induced changes in the mammary tissue that occur in response to estrogen and progesterone.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2001Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Assignee: Trustees of the University of PennsylvaniaInventors: Lewis A. Patent number: 6977016Abstract: A method has been developed for surface modifications of high temperature resistant alloys, such as FeCrAl alloys, in order to increase their resistance to corrosion at high temperatures. Coating it with a Ca-containing compound before heat-treating builds a continuous uniform and adherent layer on the surface of the alloy, that the aluminum depletion of the FeCrAl alloy is reduced under cyclic thermal stress. By this surface modification the resistance to high temperature corrosion of the FeCrAl alloy and its lifetime are significantly increased.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2003Date of Patent: December 20, 2005Assignee: Sandvik ABInventors: Jan Andersson, Magnus Cedergren

Patent number: 6942432Abstract: A milling tool includes a milling body and a plurality of insert-carrying cartridges mounted in the milling body. Each cartridge includes front and rear side surfaces which oppose leading and trailing walls of a pocket formed in the milling body. The cartridge also includes inner and outer flank surfaces which interconnect the front and rear side surfaces. The body includes a slot which opens into the front side surface at a location intermediate the ends of the cartridge, to divide the body into a rigid base portion and an expandable portion. The base portion has a seat for a cutting insert. A threaded hole is formed in the slot intermediate the slot ends to receive a threaded wedge screw. Tightening of the screw causes the expandable portion to be expanded into contact with the leading wall of the pocket and thereby push the base portion into tight contact with the trailing wall of the pocket. Accordingly, the cartridge is secured within the pocket by a tight frictional contact which resists chatter.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2003Date of Patent: September 13, 2005Assignee: Sandvik Intellectual Property ABInventors: Kenneth G.
