  • Patent number: 7488143
Abstract: A turning tool includes an indexable turning insert with a polygonal basic shape. The turning insert includes opposite top and bottom sides, main clearance surfaces that extend between the sides and adjacent to main cutting edges, and a secondary cutting edge that is formed between each pair of main cutting edges and connects to a secondary clearance surface. Pairs of the main cutting edges approach each other in corners defining corner angles of at least 55° and at most 80°. Each of the main and secondary clearance surfaces define respective clearance angles with respect to an imaginary reference plane perpendicular to the top side, and the clearance angle of the secondary clearance surface is at least 1° greater than the clearance angle of the main clearance surface. In such a way, internal turning is provided for exceptionally small holes having diameters in the range of 12 to 6 millimeters.

  • Patent number: 7487931
Abstract: A cutting tool for attachment to the leading area of a base is provided. The cutting tool includes a holder base having two substantially parallel cutting teeth extending from the holder base, the cutting teeth each having a cutting edge and an opening between the teeth. The cutting teeth define first and second cutting paths. The cutting teeth impact and cut asphalt shingles, and funneling surfaces of the teeth funnel the cut shingle material toward and through the opening, and into the path of the rear cutting member which cuts the material a second time. Thus, asphalt shingles are processed more efficiently, thereby creating less frictional heat and avoiding melting of the asphalt shingles.

  • Patent number: 7489447
Abstract: An optical condenser device has light sources (10, 20) and an optical combiner (30). Each light source (10, 20) includes a semiconductor laser array (12, 22), a collimator lens (16, 26) and a beam converter (18, 28). The optical combiner (30) combines the beams from the light sources (10, 20). The spread of the beams in planes perpendicular to the direction of alignment of the active layers (14, 24) is restrained by the refraction of the collimator lenses (16, 26). The transverse sections of the respective beams are rotated by substantially 90° by the beam converters (18, 28). The spread of the beams in the direction of alignment of the active layers is thus restrained and crossing of adjacent beams becomes unlikely to occur.

  • Patent number: 7488142
Abstract: A cutting tool includes a basic body and a cutting body that is fixable to the basic body via a male/female coupling. The coupling includes male-like fingers and female-like seats, which are delimited between elastically resilient projections. Each finger includes two converging wedge surfaces, which are pressable against a pair of diverging support surfaces of two adjacent projections. The axial angle of convergence of the two wedge surfaces of an individual finger differ from the angle of divergence of the two co-operating support surfaces of the projections, as long as the fingers are not loaded against the projections. In such a way, the removal of the cutting body from the basic body is facilitated.

  • Patent number: 7489454
Abstract: A laser processing apparatus which can suppress the positional fluctuation in light-converging point of laser light during laser processing is provided. On an optical path of laser light L1 connecting a beam expander 34 and a first light-transmitting hole 32 of a lens holder 29 to each other in a laser processing apparatus 20, a stop member 38 including a second light-transmitting hole 39 having the same diameter as that of the first light-transmitting hole 32 is disposed. Hence, the amount of laser light L1 cut by the surrounding part of the first light-transmitting hole 32 can substantially be eliminated, whereby the lens holder 29 can be prevented from being heated upon irradiation with the laser light L1. Also, even when the stop member 38 is heated by the laser light L1 cut by the surrounding part of the second light-transmitting hole 39, heat is prevented from being transmitted from the stop member 38 to the lens holder 29, since the stop member 38 is separated from the lens holder 29.

  • Patent number: 7485279
Abstract: Transition metal-substituted MCM-41 framework structures with a high degree of structural order and a narrow pore diameter distribution were reproducibly synthesized by a hydrothermal method using a surfactant and an anti-foaming agent. The pore size and the mesoporous volume depend linearly on the surfactant chain length. The transition metals, such as cobalt, are incorporated substitutionally and highly dispersed in the silica framework. Single wall carbon nanotubes with a narrow diameter distribution that correlates with the pore diameter of the catalytic framework structure were prepared by a Boudouard reaction. Nanostructures with a specified diameter or cross-sectional area can therefore be predictably prepared by selecting a suitable pore size of the framework structure.

  • Patent number: 7486960
Abstract: A system and method for wirelessly transferring content to and from a vehicle, in particular, an aircraft. The content includes, for example, data, voice, video and multimedia, that can be wirelessly exchanged over a wireless communication link between an aircraft and a ground station while the aircraft is at or near a parking gate, or between aircraft. In an example, the system employs long distance metropolitan area technology, such as IEEE Standard 802.16 wireless technology, to increase transfer range. The parameter of the wireless communication link can be adjusted based on, for example, the location of the link. The content can further be provided between the vehicle and ground station based on priorities, such as the available link speed, importance of the information, and/or anticipated connection time between the vehicle and ground station.
