  • Patent number: 4287511
Abstract: Structural moment detectors are carried by structural components, such as floors, walls, etc., within a desired secure area of a building structure. The structural moment detector detects deflections of the various structural members in response to changes of the loading of structural members caused by the intruder and generates signals which are transmitted to a control center which receives the intrusion signals and generates alarm signals. The intrusion signals are transmitted to the control center through the building structure as impulsive loads applied to the building structure by transducers located in the secure area which are responsive to the signals generated by the structural moment detectors. The alarm signals generated in the control center are transmitted to security system located in the secure area, such as automatic door locking mechanisms, lights, audible alarms, disabling gas injecting systems, etc.

  • Patent number: 4274567
Abstract: An organizer attachment for use on a shopping cart of the type having a transversely extending handle and a forwardly spaced-apart transversely extending rod. The organizer includes a substantially flat desk panel provided with clip means on outer surface for securement of anote pad or similar writing material. The upper end of the desk panel is hingedly secured to a receptacle section which defines a compartment for receiving various materials such as premiums or coupons. A writing instrument is securable to the desk panel. In a position of use, the desk panel is supported on the transverse shopping cart handle at a bracket or fastener and the receptacle section suspended at the interior of the cart at generally right angles with respect to the desk panel and secured on hangers projecting from the inner side of the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4271828
Abstract: A method for maintaining the intra-abdominal reduction of a sliding esophageal hernia. The method comprises positioning a generally C-shaped cushion prosthesis around the distal esophagus between the diaphragm and stomach. The overall size of the prosthesis is large enough to prevent extension of the gastric fundus into the thoracic cavity through an enlarged esophageal hiatus. The prosthesis is of generally constant cross-sectional area along its entire length to prevent upward migration of the prosthesis through the enlarged esophageal hiatus and to maintain the accentuated curvature of the esophagus induced by emplacement of the prosthesis. Tie means are provided to maintain the prosthesis in operative position.

  • Patent number: 4271827
Abstract: A method for preventing gastro esophageal reflux when the gastro esophageal junction is positioned above the diaphragm. The method comprises positioning a generally C-shaped cushion prosthesis about the distal esophagus, adjusting the free ends of the prosthesis at a spacing to permit normal expansion of the esophagus during swallowing and fixing the free ends of the prosthesis in the adjusted position to maintain the prosthesis in operative position around the distal esophagus adjacent to the gastric fundus when the gastro esophageal junction is positioned above the diaphragm and to maintain the adjusted spacing of the free ends. The inside diameter of the prosthesis generally corresponds to the normal outside diameter of the distal esophagus, and the C-shaped member is deformable to permit adjustment of the spacing of the free ends at a selected distance.

  • Patent number: 4272203
Abstract: Apparatus for modifying a key-operated office machine such as a typewriter to adapt the machine to one-handed operation. A depressible bar member is shaped and dimensioned to be operatively positioned below and across the keyboard and a pair of mounting arms extend perpendicularly from the bar member toward an engaging horizontal edge of the machine cabinet. A key depressor is operatively associated with the bar and the arms and located above at least one of the keys of the machine such that the key is depressed when the bar is depressed. Means are provided for normally urging the bar member upwardly to prevent the key being depressed until downward pressure is exerted on the bar by the operator.
