  • Patent number: 4340225
Abstract: A game racket and apparatus for adjusting the tension in the strings of a game racket. The game racket has a frame which forms a head. A handle is connected to the frame. The frame has a series of holes around its circumference. String or wire is laced through the holes of the frame to form a striking surface. The tensioning apparatus includes a screw which is threadedly mounted in the frame so that the string or wire passes over the head of the screw. The screw extends through the frame. The screw has engaging means exposed to the interior of the frame. The tension in the string is adjusted by turning the screw by means of the engaging means. The head of the screw may have shallow notches for releasably holding the string and for calibrating the adjustment of tension on the string.

  • Patent number: 4278025
Abstract: An improved seismic explosive charge loader and anchor for loading and anchoring explosives in cylindrical containers in bore holes is disclosed, which includes a snap in spring band shaped anchor which effectively anchors the loader in the well bore against upward movement, one aspect of the invention includes a snap lock threaded connection for securing an explosive container having interrupted threads to the loader and anchor, and the loader and anchor is constructed and arranged to maintain a detonator in place in the explosive container thereby assuring detonation of the explosive.

  • Patent number: 4257484
Abstract: Disclosed is a pressure differential circulating valve which can be connected to and form a portion of the tubing string disposed in casing for flow of fluid from a formation traversed by the casing and the tubing. Advantageously, the pressure differential circulating valve has an unrestricted passageway of substantially the same size and shape as that of the tubing string, yet is small enough in external diameter to be disposed in normal casing set in a well bore, can be set to open at any flow pressure and can be placed at any depth. Thus, in pumping fluids down the tubing, such as hot oil to remove paraffin from the inside of the tubing and pump rods and the like, or other treating fluids, such as to treat corrosion problems, the pressure differential circulating valve opens at the predetermined pressure permitting flow of fluid therethrough into the annulus between the casing and the tubing string.

  • Patent number: 3941696
Abstract: Wastewaters heavily laden with organic compounds and containing viruses and other microbiological flora are sterilized and maintained sterile for prolonged periods of time by the addition of a base, such as lime, and a quaternary compound, preferably cetyl pyridinium chloride, in amounts to maintain the pH of the wastewaters at about 9-11, or higher, and with sufficient quaternary compound for suspended solids present. This prevents the formation of methane gases, which are tentative hazards in that they are inflammable, asphyxiant and narcotic. Similarly, toilets are rendered sterile by the addition of the base and quaternary compound so that, upon flushing, aerosols generated will not contain active infectious agents. All bacteria and fungi are inactivated under these basic conditions by the addition of quaternary compounds. Viruses are also inactivated under these basic conditions but only with quaternary compounds which contain the pyridinium moiety.

  • Patent number: 3939771
Abstract: A seismic explosive charge loader and anchor is disclosed for loading and anchoring explosives in conventional containers, such as cylindrical packages and cans provided with projecting circumferential rims. The loader includes a first tubular member having an upwardly facing internal recess of sufficient diameter to loosely receive a loading pole or loading weight, and a second tubular member having a downwardly facing internal recess of sufficient diameter to fit about and receive the explosive container. A plurality of inwardly and upwardly tapered resilient gripping ribs are disposed in the internal recess and are arranged to grip smooth sides of the cylindrical explosive container and thereby securely hold it in the loader. The ribs are provided with an internal and circumferentially extending groove which receives and grips the circumferential rim or projection of the can type explosive containers.

  • Patent number: 3936655
Abstract: Bulkwelding is disclosed in which a consummable electrically conductive electrode is fed to a weld zone, and electric current is caused to flow in the electrode thereby providing a magnetic field about the electrode, particles of magnetically responsive weld material are fed to the electrode which magnetically adhere to it, fluxing materials are fed to the weld zone, preferably in front and in back of the electrode and adhered weld particles, and the electrode with the particles of weld material magnetically adhered to it are fed through the flux to the weld zone where the electrode and particles are melted to form the weld. The rate of feeding the weld particles and the electrode are coordinated to provide any desired ratio of weld particles to electrode in the weld. Both methods and apparatus are disclosed.
