  • Patent number: 4104562
Abstract: Power consumption by traffic lights is reduced during the nighttime hours by allowing only part of each cycle of the alternating current to the lights to pass through. A photo conductive cell which is responsive to ambient light intensities controls a timing device which in turn controls the device for allowing current to flow to the lights. Detection devices monitor the proper operation of the devices which allow current to flow through the lights. In the event that an improper operation is detected, an override relay switches full power to the lights.

  • Patent number: 4099340
Abstract: A plurality of elongated rollers are arranged on a surface in a substantially closed polygonal configuration. The rollers are interconnected so as to be simultaneously driven by a single motor coupled to one of the rollers. A plurality of resilient members randomly project from the surface of the rollers and are adapted to contact a plurality of different size spheres located within the perimeter of the polygon. Contact between the projections and the spheres when the cylinders are rotated provide impetus to the spheres to cause them to move across the surface in a random fashion. Collisions between the various spheres further randomizes their motion.

  • Patent number: 4099809
Abstract: A device for providing work surfaces for writing, typing or other such activities, that collapses to an easily storable position and readily reassembles for use. The device includes a plurality of hinged work surfaces of shelves, which are connected to a rear support wall and in the assembled position are also connected to side support walls. The side support walls are, in turn, also connected to the rear support wall. In addition, partition extension walls can be connected and disconnected from the side support walls to provide increased seclusion from adjoining areas when the device is used in a crowded area.

  • Patent number: 4099534
Abstract: A tent and storage compartment therefor are mounted on the top of a van or similar vehicle. The storage compartment comprises a shallow box of approximately the same width as the van but with a length somewhat less than the length thereof and includes a base and a top hinged to the base. A pair of poles having a length approximately equal to the width of the compartment are pivotally connected to the top adjacent each front corner and rest in the front corners of the base to hold the top open. Right and left side support poles are pivotally connected to the front corners of the base and extend outwardly away from the van. The side support poles are jointed together at the other ends thereof by a connecting pole. Cables are connected between the top and the remote ends of the side poles to support the side poles in a horizontal position. Appropriately shaped tent material covers and is suspended from the cables and poles to complete the tent.
