  • Patent number: 7890005
Abstract: A method, system, and manufacture for adjusting electrostatic charges in a laser printer. A charge is applied to a photoconductor drum surface to create a dark voltage. An image area of the photoconductor drum is exposed with a printhead using a defined energy level to discharge the charge from the image area. An exposure voltage of the photoconductor drum is measured after the image area has been exposed. A first optimization is performed to determine an adjusted dark voltage and an adjusted energy level based on the measured exposure voltage and the dark voltage and the energy levels applied to the photoconductor drum. An applicator voltage is applied to an applicator that applies toner to the exposed image area of the photoconductor drum. Toner density applied to the photoconductor drum is measured and a second optimization is performed to adjust the applicator voltage to produce a target toner density.

  • Patent number: 7890638
Abstract: Gateway systems and methods are disclosed for allowing for communication between a real world environment and a virtual world environment. A gateway system in one embodiment is implemented between the virtual world environment and the real world environment. For a session being initiated from a real world user to a virtual world user, the gateway system receives a signaling message from the real world user to initiate the session with the virtual world user, and processes the signaling message to identify a virtual world identifier assigned to the virtual world user. The gateway system converts the signaling message to a communication request message in a protocol used in the virtual world environment, and transmits the communication request message to the virtual world user to establish the session. When the session is established, the virtual world user and the real world user may communicate via voice and/or data.

  • Patent number: 7882618
Abstract: Methods of fabricating magnetic read heads are provided which reduce the width of the scratch exposure region of a read head. During normal fabrication processes, a read head is formed with a first shield, a read element formed on the first shield, and hard bias layers formed on either side of the read element. The width of the read elements and the hard bias layers define an initial scratch exposure region. According to embodiments herein, a mask structure is formed to protect the read element and first portions of the hard bias layers proximate to the read element. A removal process is then performed to remove second portions of the hard bias layers that are not protected by the mask structure, which defines a final scratch exposure region that is smaller than the initial scratch exposure region.

  • Patent number: 7883177
Abstract: Tray inserts are disclosed for production printing systems. The tray inserts rest in ink trays and hold ink absorbing elements. The tray inserts and ink absorbing elements collect ink when printheads print outside of the margin of a printable medium, or otherwise discharge ink that does not contact the medium, such as during a cleaning cycle. When the ink absorbing elements become saturated and excess ink collects in the tray inserts, the tray inserts may be lifted vertically out of the ink trays and the ink absorbing elements may be removed from the tray inserts. The excess ink may then be dumped or otherwise cleaned from the tray inserts. In one embodiment, the tray inserts include drains which are used to empty the excess ink.

  • Patent number: 7880913
Abstract: Methods, systems, and software products are disclosed for transforming print jobs. A transform system of the invention includes a segmenting system and a plurality of compute systems. The segmenting system receives a print job comprising logical pages in a first encoding, and segments the print job of logical pages into work units. A plurality (some or all) of the work units each includes multiple logical pages. The segmenting system then transmits the work units to the compute systems. Responsive to receiving a work unit, a compute system converts the logical pages in the work unit to a second encoding thus performing the transform.

  • Patent number: 7877487
Abstract: Communication networks and associated methods are disclosed for dynamically defining service triggers. Responsive to receiving a session initiation message for a session, an application server defines one or more subsequent service triggers for a service provided by the application server for the session. The subsequent service triggers identify messages or conditions for the session of which the application server desires to be notified. The application server then transmits the subsequent service triggers to a session control function that is setting up or maintaining the session. The session control function then receives a subsequent message for the session. The session control function processes the subsequent message and the subsequent service triggers to determine whether to transmit the subsequent message to the application server.

  • Patent number: 7876861
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems for generating bit-wise reliability information using a soft output Viterbi algorithm (“SOVA”) in an nT Viterbi decoder implementation devoid of 1T metric information. At each nT clock pulse 1T equivalent metric values are determined from the current nT metric information. 1T equivalent metric information is determined as values that sum to the corresponding nT metric information. Subtraction is then used to determine state metric difference information from the 1T equivalent metric values. The state metric difference information may then be used to estimate log likelihood ratio information for use in the SOVA algorithm to determine bit-wise reliability information.

  • Patent number: 7869088
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining a preferred size for a Link LUT as used in conversion from an input color space defined by an input ICC profile into an output color space defined by an output ICC profile. The Link LUT may be incorporated within a device link structure as generally defined in the ICC specification or within a Link Color Conversion CMR in an AFP architecture system. The preferred size is determined from the size of an input LUT associated with the input ICC profile and the size of an output LUT associated with the output ICC profile. In AFP architecture systems, the input and output LUTs and profiles may each be incorporated in appropriate Color Conversion CMRs. The preferred size is determined as a reduced size that requires less computation to generate but does not cause loss of accuracy in conversion between the input and output color spaces.

  • Patent number: 7855553
Abstract: Test methods and components are disclosed for testing resistances of magnetoresistance (MR) sensors in read elements. Test components are fabricated on a wafer with a first test lead, a test MR sensor, and a second test lead. The test leads and test MR sensor are fabricated with similar processes as first shields, MR sensors, and second shields of read elements on tie wafer. However, the test MR sensor is fabricated with an area that is larger than areas of the MR sensors in the read elements. The larger area of the test MR sensor causes the resistance of the test MR sensor to be insignificant compared to the lead resistance. Thus, a resistance measurement of the test component represents the lead resistance of a read element. An accurate resistance measurement of an MR sensor in a read element may then be determined by subtracting the lead resistance.

  • Patent number: 7839716
Abstract: Apparatus and systems for improved PVT invariant fast rank switching in a DDR3 memory subsystem. A clock skew control circuit is provided between a memory controller and a DDR3 SDRAM memory subsystem to adjust skew between the DDR3 clock signal and data related signals (e.g., DQ and/or DQS). A initial write-leveling procedure determines the correct skew and programs a register file in the skew adjustment circuit. The register file includes a register for each of multiple ranks in the DDR3 memory. The values in each register serve to control selection of alignment of the data related signals to align with one of multiple phase shifted versions of a 1× DDR3 clock signal. The phase shifted clock signals are generated by clock divider circuits from a 2× DDR clock signal and use of a single fixed delay line approximating ? of a 1× DDR3 clock period.
