  • Patent number: 4334501
Abstract: An improved animal shelter having a feed dispenser is provided wherein the feed dispenser is disposable on one of the side walls, and preferably forms one of the sidewalls of the improved animal shelter. The feed dispenser includes a body member having a cavity formed wherein, the cavity extending from an upper end of the body member to the lower end of the body member. A feed trough is disposed adjacent the lower end of the body member so as to be in open communication with the cavity formed in the body member. Thus, animal feed can be disposed in the cavity of the body portion and stored therein for delivery to the feed trough.

  • Patent number: 4326311
Abstract: An improved self-releasing locking unit, such as a self-releasing locking edge support, in an inner spring assembly wherein the locking unit can be employed to secure the inner spring assembly in a compressed condition during the covering of same, and which will release the inner spring assembly from the compressed condition after the covering procedure has been completed. The self-releasing locking unit comprises a hook connected to the peripheral lower frame of the inner spring assembly and a hook receiver connected to an upper portion of the inner spring assembly. The hook is biased in a first position near the lower frame and is movable to a second position wherein the hook is disposed substantially normal to the plane of the lower frame and is adapted to engage the hook when the lower and upper frames of the inner spring assembly are in a compressed condition.

  • Patent number: 4316095
Abstract: An electrical receptacle is connected to the alternator of an automotive vehicle to permit connection thereto of a power tool. A switching circuit senses the presence of an electric current through the tool to actuate relays in the switching circuit to cause the alternator to operate in a high voltage mode wherein the alternator provides power at a voltage level suitable for operating the tool at such times that the engine of the vehicle is operating. A unidirectional current path is provided between the battery of the vehicle and the receptacle to enable operation of the switching circuit at such times that the engine is not operating while isolating the battery from electrical power generated by the alternator in the high voltage mode of operation thereof.

  • Patent number: 4311322
Abstract: A folding, self-locking outrigger for a load transporting vehicle, the outrigger disposed on a side of the vehicle such that the outrigger is movable between a first position wherein the outrigger is disposed substantially adjacent the side of the vehicle and a second position wherein the outrigger, in combination with adjacent outriggers, is adapted to receive an extension member so that the width of the vehicle can be increased. The folding outrigger is characterized as having a first linkage assembly, a second foldable linkage assembly, and a combination pivot-locking assembly. The combination pivot-locking assembly, which is operably connected to the second foldable linkage assembly such that the outrigger can be pivotally moved between the first and second position, secures the outrigger in the first and second position.

  • Patent number: 4309963
Abstract: An animal handling apparatus for turning over from one side to the other side a relatively large animal with front and rear legs, a back, a stomach, and opposite sides including a frame, a first brace connected to the frame, a winch connected to the frame, a cable having opposite ends with one end connected to the winch, a handle with one end connected to the frame, and a second brace connected to the frame. In operation, the animal handling apparatus is positioned near the animal's back, the cable is extended under the animal and secured to the animal's front legs, the winch retrieves the cable drawing the animal's front legs toward the animal's stomach, and the first brace engages the animal's back near one side of the animal.

  • Patent number: 4306395
Abstract: An improved lightweight cementitious product consisting essentially of an aqueous cementitious mixture and reclaimed polystyrene beads in which the reclaimed polystyrene beads are bonded to the cementitious material. The cementitious product is prepared by dispensing reclaimed polystyrene beads in an aqueous cementitious mixture, such as hydraulic cement and water, to form a resulting mixture, placing the resulting mixture in a mold, and compressing the resulting mixture in the mold until setting of the resulting composition occurs. The volume of the resulting mixture in the mold is reduced during compression by approximately fifteen percent of the original volume and substantially no water is exuded from the resulting mixture during compression. The reclaimed polystyrene beads are substantially spherical in configuration and have a particle size substantially larger than "virgin" polystyrene beads.

  • Patent number: 4305734
Abstract: An improved process for recovering hydrocarbon components from a hydrocarbon-carrier gas mixture wherein the mixture is passed through a solid adsorbent bed capable of selectively adsorbing the hydrocarbon and passing substantially hydrocarbon-free carrier gas. The hydrocarbon components are recovered by passing a hydrocarbon-rich flushing gas mixture through the adsorbent bed followed by subjecting the adsorbent bed to a change in pressure to desorb the hydrocarbon components and produce a hydrocarbon-rich product stream. Further hydrocarbon enrichment may be obtained by passing the product stream to another solid adsorbent bed to adsorb the hydrocarbon and pass further substantially hydrocarbon-free carrier gas. The hydrocarbon components are then recovered by subjecting the other adsorbent bed to a vacuum to desorb the hydrocarbon and produce a richer hydrocarbon product stream.

  • Patent number: 4299240
Abstract: An improved method for styling hair comprising the steps of applying a stable foam to dampened hair to form a pliable hair and foam mass, shaping the hair and foam mass as desired, drying the shaped mass of hair and foam, and combing the hair to remove the foam residue. After the foam residue is combed out, the hair is retained in the desired style.

  • Patent number: 4297922
Abstract: A jaw support for a power tongs having a rotatable rotor for turning a pipe via a jaw and anvil mounted on the rotor via the jaw support. The jaw support comprises two support plates which sandwich the rotor and support the jaw and anvil. The jaw is actuated by rollers disposed in the rotor and engaged by a portion of the jaw. Engagement between a portion of the jaw and portions of the jaw support limits pivotation of the jaw on the jaw support and the actuation of the jaw via rollers on the roller limits pivotation of the jaw with respect to the rotor so that relative rotation between the jaw support and the rotor is limited at such times that the jaw is mounted on the jaw support.

  • Patent number: 4298693
Abstract: A fermentation apparatus for converting agricultural raw materials into a fermented liquor containing about 10 weight percent ethanol comprising a fermentation chamber, a separation chamber, a conduit for transporting mash through the fermentation chamber and the separation chamber, and at least one pump for circulating an aqueous yeast-containing solution in the fermentation chamber into the conduit for contact with the mash to convert the simple sugars in the mash to ethanol. A gas separator is positioned within the separation chamber to remove the carbon dioxide generated by the fermentation of the simple sugars in the mash such that the carbon dioxide does not enter and agitate the aqueous ethanol mixture in the separation chamber.

  • Patent number: 4296941
Abstract: An improved folding gooseneck for a load carrying trailer is provided consisting of a forward gooseneck member and a linking assembly. The linking assembly, which pivotably attaches the forward gooseneck member to the frame of a trailer, consists of a combination of a sliding linkage and a non-sliding linkage in which such linkages are positioned so that they form a parallelogram configuration when the gooseneck is in a folded position and a non-parallelogram configuration when the gooseneck is in an unfolded position for use as a loading ramp.

  • Patent number: 4293228
Abstract: Annular lands are mounted on the inner periphery of the tubular shell of a drum for an asphalt mixing apparatus of the type wherein the drum is disposed on a slant and rotated so that flighting arranged about the inner periphery of the drum lifts and drops aggregate and asphalt across the drum to transport the aggregate and asphalt toward the lower end of the drum. Portions of the flighting are mounted in the inner periphery of the shell and portions are mounted on the annular lands. The lands reduce the inside diameter of the drum in selected regions thereof to establish differing advance rates of aggregate and asphalt through the drum in different regions thereof so as to selectively vary the density of veils of asphalt and aggregate across the drum with axial location within the drum.
