  • Patent number: 5072882
Abstract: An accumulator type fuel injection nozzle having a relief valve for the control chamber that is controlled by an electromagnet constructed in such a way so as to reduce flux losses to the outer housing of the injection nozzle. In addition, the inlet and return ports of the nozzle are formed in the outer end of the nozzle and extend axially so that the mounting position of the nozzle will not be critical to the fuel connections to the pump and return lines.

  • Patent number: 5063897
Abstract: A vehicle and drive unit therefor including a transversely disposed engine located in an engine compartment. The cylinders are inclined to the rear from a vertical plane at an acute angle and the engine crankshaft drives an accessory shaft that rotates in a plane disposed at an acute angle to the vertical and forwardly of the cylinder axis and at an acute angle to the cylinder axis. Accessories are driven from this accessory shaft as are the front wheel axles which lie on the opposite side of the plane containing the cylinder axis from the output shaft axis. The accessory drive is disposed inwardly of the ends of the engine so as to provide a compact body and the engine body is recessed to receive the accessory drive so as to minimize the distance between the accessory shaft and the engine crankshaft.

  • Patent number: 5054457
Abstract: A two cycle crankcase compression internal combustion engine including an air/fuel injector unit for injecting fuel and air into the engine. Compressed air is delivered to the fuel/air injector unit from an air compressor and a heat exchanger is provided in this line for cooling the air. The cooling is sufficient to cause condensation of any water vapor in the air and the condensate is drained from the system after the engine is stopped through an electrically operated valve. This valve also serves to reduce the pressure of the air in the system when the engine is stopped so that fuel and air will not be discharged if the fuel/air injector unit is removed when the engine is shut down for servicing.

  • Patent number: 5048497
Abstract: A number of embodiments of fuel injection systems using air/fuel injection and wherein the fuel is not delivered to the injection unit until after the injection valve is open so that fuel cannot flow back into the pressurized air system. In some embodiments, a single valve element and valve seat controls the flow of both fuel and air.

  • Patent number: 4214561
Abstract: An induction system for an internal combustion engine that is provided with a relatively small auxiliary intake passage that delivers the intake charge to the combustion chamber at a high velocity and high degree of turbulence. Throttle valve means are provided for directing a substantial portion of the idle and low-speed intake into the chamber through this auxiliary intake passage so as to improve flame propagation and engine performance under these running conditions. The intake for the auxiliary induction passage is disposed so that it will be exposed to atmospheric pressure under at least some low-speed running characteristics so as to improve the amount of charge drawn through the auxiliary induction passage during these conditions.
