  • Patent number: 3995765
Abstract: A safety overcap for a container, for example, an aerosol container. The child-resistant overcap includes a generally circular top wall and a generally cylindrical outer skirt depending downwardly from the top wall. The wall of the outer skirt is provided with a pair of opposed, longitudinally extending slots. An inner skirt depends downwardly from the top wall within the outer skirt and has two opposed portions positioned adjacent the pair of openings in the outer skirt. The inner skirt is provided with opposed, inwardly projecting beads on the lower portion thereof which enagage an annular groove provided at the top of the container to attach the cap to the container. By gripping the exposed portions of the inner skirt through the slots with the forefinger and thumb and applying pressure thereto, the inner skirt is distorted and releases the overcap from the container.

  • Patent number: 3974832
Abstract: An interchangeable needle assemblage for a hypodermic syringe which enables needles of varying lengths and characteristics to be readily attached to the barrel of an existing syringe or vial. Where double-ended needles are utilized, the barrel or vial has an opening with a sealing membrane disposed thereacross, adapted to be pierced by the inner end of the needle. Carried on the barrel is a locking type ferrule having a pair of internal locking shoulders located on opposite sides of a slot. A needle hub assembly is receivable in the slot, being rigidly affixed to the needle at a point intermediate the ends thereof, said assembly having finger-engageable ears to facilitate grasping of the hub, and further having shoulders cooperable with the locking shoulders on the ferrule. To install a needle on the syringe or vial, the hub is first inserted into the ferrule so that the hub shoulders by-pass the internal locking shoulders of the ferrule.

  • Patent number: 3963150
Abstract: A squeeze bottle dispenser having a puff-type spray discharge characteristic. The bottle comprises a container having a flexible wall portion adapted to be squeezed in the hand of the user, a discharge nozzle, and a spring-urged check valve controlling flow to the nozzle. The valve includes a hollow valve housing with an annular valve seat, a ball-check engageable with the seat so as to seal the same, and a spring which normally biases the ball against the seat to seal the container and prevent leakage of its contents. The arrangement is such that when the container wall is squeezed, the ball-check initially prevents fluid from entering the valve housing until a predetermined pressure in the container has been attained, after which the spring yields somewhat, resulting in a sudden impulse or puff-type discharge through the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 3958727
Abstract: A dispenser of the hand-held type for discharging fluid under pressure, comprising a container having an open top end, and a valve assemblage which is received in the open end and secured in place by means of a crimped ferrule. The container has a circular rim surrounding the opening, together with an annular external shoulder immediately adjacent the rim. The valve assemblage includes a valve housing defining a valve chamber, a resilient valve seat which constitutes one end of the chamber, and a movable valve stem having a longitudinal opening and transverse side passage adapted to communicate with the chamber when the stem is depressed. The housing further includes an annular mounting flange which engages and rests upon the rim of the container, and a depending skirt which bears against inner wall portions of the container, all to form a leakproof seal therewith. The ferrule extends over the annular mounting flange of the valve housing and is crimped onto the external shoulder of the container.

  • Patent number: 3957178
Abstract: A small hand-held dispenser of the pump variety, comprising a container and a cooperable dispenser pump construction adapted to be carried by the container. The pump per se is secured therein by means of a unique plastic closure which is in the form of an inverted, dish-shaped member. The closure has relatively thin walls enabling it to be readily molded, and has a depending peripheral flange with an internal bead which is forced over an external shoulder on the rim of the container so as to effect a snap fit therewith. In one embodiment, the flange has a depending portion which extends downward a substantial distance beyond the location of the internal bead, so as to minimize the likelihood of the flange being cracked either during or after the forced bypass of the bead and container shoulder. The plastic closure not only securely mounts the pump assemblage, but also effects a leak-proof connection with the container while at the same time simplifying the assembly operations and tooling.

  • Patent number: 3954114
Abstract: A dispensing holder for lipstick and the like, comprising an essentially cylindrical casing having an opening at one end containing a product-carrying cup which is movable between advanced and retracted positions. A flexible pushpull actuator strap disposed in the casing has one end connected to the cup to actuate the same, and has at its other end a concavo-convex closure member of arcuate cross section. A finger piece extends through a longitudinal slot in the casing and is connected to the strap. The cup, strap and closure member are guided and controlled by an internal guide member which is closely confined within the casing, all in such a manner that the casing can be completely cylindrical. The push-pull strap, when operated by the finger piece, can advance or retract the cup and the product contained therein, and simultaneously effect retracting or advancing movement, respectively of the closure member.

  • Patent number: 3951310
Abstract: An aerosol dispenser of the hand-held type, comprising a can which contains a flexible, collapsible bag having the substance to be discharged. A valve on the can communicates with the bag to effect the discharge. In the can a spring engages a wall portion of the bag, tending to collapse the same, and there are manually operable means including a finger piece for varying the force applied by the spring to the bag as the contents of the latter are gradually depleted whereby the rate of discharge of the spray can be maintained more nearly constant regardless of the quantity of substance occupying the bag at any particular time.

  • Patent number: 3941489
Abstract: A dispensing holder for cosmetic stick product and the like, comprising an outer casing which is completely cylindrical and has an opening at one end. A circular rim surrounds the opening and has an annular shoulder at its underside. Cooperable with the shoulder is a thin, curved wafer-like closure member disposed in the casing and movable from a retracted position closely underlying the cylindrical casing wall to an advanced position wherein it spans the open end of the casing so as to engage the shoulder and form a tight, dust-proof seal therewith. The circular rim lies in a plane which is substantially perpendicular to the casing axis, such that the casing has the especially pleasing external appearance of a perfect cylinder. The closure member is carried by a flexible, push-pull actuator strap which is guided for movement along diametrically opposite longitudinal portions of the casing by a tubular internal guide member.
