  • Patent number: 4807146
Abstract: A digital lock-in amplifier has a digital-to-analog converter connected between a central processing unit and a source of a signal to be detected or measured and which modulates the signal, an analog-to-digital converter connected between the source of the signal to be measured and the central processing unit, which includes a low pass filtered amplifier, a voltage controlled oscillator having a voltage offset reference supply and a counter, so that the modulated signal is converted to a series of electronic pulses counted over a set period, and a central processing unit which reads, resets and restarts the counter, analyzes the counts received, outputs digital information relating to the amplitude and phase of the signal to be measured or detected, reads a function table and outputs a signal to the digital-to-analog converter. A method detects and measure timed periodic signals using the above digital lock-in amplifier.

  • Patent number: 4727176
Abstract: This invention relates to R.sub.1, i.e., phenoxy-, halophenoxy- and isopropoxy- hydroxymethylphenoxycyclotriphosphazenes and to a process for their preparation. The process comprises reacting R.sub.1 -chlorocyclotriphosphazene with a salt of hydroxymethylphenoxide. The reaction takes place in the presence of an inert organic solvent and at a temperature within the range of from about 20.degree. C. to about 150.degree. C. The invention also relates to R.sub.1 -hydroxymethylphenoxycyclotetraphosphazenes. Also disclosed is a process for preparing a mixture of R.sub.1 -hydroxymethylcyclotriphosphazene and R.sub.1 -hydroxymethylcyclotetraphosphazene by reacting a mixture of R.sub.1 -chlorocyclotriphosphazene and R.sub.1 -chlorocyclotetraphosphazene with a hydroxymethylphenoxide salt.

  • Patent number: 4714665
Abstract: This invention relates to a secondary battery comprised of three polymer films, the third containing an electrolyte and the first and second containing an electrochemical species which may be in an anodic or a cathodic state depending upon whether the battery is discharging or is being recharged. The third polymer sheet is substantially not electrically conductive under battery discharge voltages, but is electrically conductive under battery recharge voltages. The first and second sheets are electrically conductive under both the discharge and recharge voltages. In a preferred form, the electrolyte and the electrochemical species are uniformly distributed within their respective films by dissolving the electrolyte and the species in a plasticizer which is incorporated within the polymer films.

  • Patent number: 4705535
Abstract: This invention relates to a two-fluid nozzle which is adjustable to provide a substantially constant mixing energy. Adjustment of the two-fluid nozzle is made in accordance with the pressure and mass flow values of the liquid and gas fed to the nozzle. A microprocessor calculates the mixing energy from these values and provides an output to the nozzle to adjust it should its mixing energy be in variance with a pre-selected mixing energy.

  • Patent number: 4704265
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the production of an aqueous calcium chloride solution, which process comprises: locating a charge of calcium carbonate within a reaction vessel; and contacting an aqueous solution containing hydrochloric acid with the calcium carbonate charge to produce carbon dioxide and the aqueous calcium chloride solution. The carbon dioxide produces a foam at the top of the aqueous calcium chloride solution and entrains therewithin at least a portion of any fines contained in such solution. In one embodiment, the fines are removed from the reaction system by allowing the foam and its entrained fines to overflow the reaction vessel. In another embodiment, removal of the fines is achieved by providing a foam reservoir into which the foam and its entrained fines continuously enter and a defoaming mechanism for breaking down the entering foam.
