    Abstract: The crystal size and shape of zeolite KL can be improved by forming the zeolite from a synthesis mixture in which the molar ratio of K.sub.2 O/SiO.sub.2 is 0.18 to 0.36, and in which the synthesis mixture comprises iron preferably in an amount such that the molar ratio of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 is 0.015 to 0.3.

    Abstract: A coating composition useful on a variety of substrates, and particularly as a coating for ammonium nitrate which exhibit a reduced tendency to cake or dust once applied to the surface of a substrate. In one embodiment, the composition is composed of magnesium stearate and an effective amount of magnesium oxide, i.e. 10-15% by total weight of the coating composition, to substantially minimize or reduce the tendency of the composition to cake or dust, particularly after the coating composition is applied to the substrate. The composition preferably is colored by incorporating pigment in a reactant mixture of stearic acid and magnesium oxide before completion of the reaction. As a result the pigment is entrapped in a matrix formed by the magnesium stearate and magnesium oxide so that discoloration by contact with the coating composition, for example on the coated substrate, does not readily occur.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for producing dienes which involves reacting a reaction mixture of tertiary alkyl ether and a source of oxygen over two functionally distinct catalysts under reaction conditions sufficient to produce high yields of the dienes with minimal recycle of the ether. The two functionally different catalysts are selected from a group of bifunctional catalysts having both oxidation sites and acidic sites and monofunctional acidic catalysts, such as bifunctional catalysts containing components selected from a group of oxides of vanadium, tungsten, molybdenum, copper, iron, chromium, and uranium and mixtures thereof; and monofuctional acid catalysts such as acid treated montmorillonite clays, and acid catalysts comprising an inorganic amorphous or substantially amorphous oxide material comprising the following components reacted therein:M.sup.1 /M.sup.2 /P/Owherein M.sup.1 is at least one Group IIIB element selected from the group consisting of Al, Ga, In and Tl; M.sup.

    Abstract: Zeolite L in very small crystalline form is prepared by a process in which an alkaline reaction mixture comprising water, a source of silicon (SiO.sub.2), a source of alkali metal (M) (KOH) and a source of aluminium (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.3H.sub.2 O) or gallium is heated to a temperature of at least 80.degree. C. for a period of time long enough to form zeolite L, the composition of the reaction mixture having the following molar ratios (expressed as oxides):______________________________________ M.sub.2 O/SiO.sub.2 0.4 to 0.5 H.sub.2 O/M.sub.2 O 15 to 30 and SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 or Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 5 to 11 ______________________________________where M is potassium or a mixture of potassium and one or more other alkali metals. Zeolite L made by this process can be used for separating isomers of dimethylnaphthalene from one another.

    Abstract: A process for regenerating a catalyst which involves washing a catalyst with a liquid at a temperature within the range of about 50.degree. C. to about 70.degree. C. for a time sufficient to remove foulants thereby recovering catalyst activity. The wash liquid is preferably a member selected from the group consisting of ethers, alcohols and mixtures of ethers and alcohols wherein the ether is a tertiary alkyl ether, preferably selected from the group consisting of tertiary amyl methyl ether and methyl tertiary butyl ether, and wherein the alcohol is preferably selected from the group consisting of tertiary butyl alcohol and methanol. The catalyst is preferably a clay treated with an acid selected from the group consisting of hydrofluoric acid, hydrochloric acid and mixtures of hydrofluoric and hydrochlorica acid, wherein the clay is preferably selected from the group consisting of montmorillonite, kaolinite, attapulgite, bentonite and natural clay.
