    Abstract: A system with a pair of flange extrusions and a base extrusion having a channel for electrical leads and lighting. A preferred embodiment has a base extrusion of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) of 89–98 Duro on the Shore OO scale. The base extrusion is connected, on opposite sides of the channel, to a first flange extrusion and a second flange extrusion of PVC with a hardness of preferably of 90 Duro. Electrical leads are placed in the channel. A lens is inserted into the channel over the leads. A replaceable LED module having a circuit board secured to a module base is attached to the leads. The circuit board preferably has a gasket or seal, an LED and two contact teeth that make electrical contact with the leads.

    Abstract: The present invention is a ground-embedded, air-cooled lighting device. In particular, the present invention is directed to a floodlight or sealed lamp. A preferred embodiment of the floodlight comprises a sealed casing having an exterior wall and contains air. The sealed casing holds a disc element supporting a translucid material and a tube spaced from the exterior wall. The tube is preferably concentrically mounted within the casing. The tube surrounds an optical reflector, a light source mounted at the reflector's focus and aimed at the disc element, and a power supply for the light source. The sealed casing further contains a fan, preferably aimed a portion of the exterior wall having increased thermal conductivity. The fan circulates air in the casing through the tube and past the disc element for cooling purposes.

A first regulator assembly operates the first valve assembly. A pressure signal actuation assembly has an actuation bellows attached to an actuation piston mounted on a flow control piston rod that passes through an isolation plate and is sheathed by an isolation bellows. The flow control piston rod terminates in a flow control piston that engages a second regulator assembly, which operates the second valve assembly based on pressure signals transmitted through the pressure signal inlet to the pressure signal actuation assembly.

The strand of light sources is then placed within a lens component, preferably an extrusion. The lens component is connected to a base component; wherein the plurality of light sources are mounted to the base component and contained within the lens component. The fixture can be mounted to, inter alia, a wall, a chair, or a railing in an area to be lit by the fixture.

    Abstract: A flow controller having a first and second stages of regulation. The first stage is a pressure regulation stage that maintains the pressure within an intermediate chamber (formed by a series of interconnected passageways and cavities) within a predetermined range above the pressure in an outlet port. The second stage maintains the flow rate within a predetermined range about a target flow rate. Both stages sample the pressure in the outlet port and automatically adjust the flow of fluid to ensure that fluctuations in pressure at the inlet and outlet ports do not affect the flow rate. The flow rate is set and controlled by a user determined setpoint. The pressure is regulated by one or more feedback systems. The feedback systems used may be mechanical or electromechanical based on a particular operating environment.

If temperature is not controlled, the plot or pressure versus mass flow rate will remain linear, but the slope of the curve will be adjusted based on the temperature of the fluid.

    Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, it has been discovered that monocyte conditioned medium (MCM) obtained from patients with liver disease stimulates the proliferation of fibroblasts. Platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) has also been found to stimulate fibroproliferation of fibroblasts, and to be at least partially responsible for the fibroproliferative effect of the MCM. Further in accordance with the present invention, the effect of MCM and PDGF on the expression of c-fos and c-jun has been investigated, because c-fos and c-jun form AP-1 complexes which can stimulate genes involved in proliferation. It has recently been reported that pentoxifylline inhibits platelet derived growth factor-stimulated proliferation. The mechanism of this action of pentoxifylline is unclear. Thus, in the course of the work undertaken as part of the present invention, studies were conducted to determine whether pentoxifylline altered the expression of c-fos and c-jun.

    Abstract: The retinoid X receptor (RXR) participates in a wide array of hormonal signaling pathways either as a homodimer or as a heterodimer with other members of the steroid/thyroid hormone superfamily of receptors. In accordance with the present invention, the ligand-dependent transactivation function of RXR has been characterized and the ability of RXR to interact with components of the basal transcription machinery has been examined. In vivo and in vitro experiments indicate the RXR ligand binding domain makes a direct, specific and ligand-dependent contact with a highly conserved region of the TATA binding protein (TBP). The ability of mutations that reduce ligand-dependent transcription by RXR to disrupt the RXR-TBP interaction in vivo and in vitro suggests that RXR makes direct contact with the basal transcription machinery in order to achieve activation.
