Abstract: A technique for the fabrication of integrated optical circuits is described wherein a transparent polymer film, which is doped with a polynuclear aromatic thiol having higher index of refraction than the polymer, is deposited from a liquid solution on a smooth substrate. Upon selective exposure to radiation there is a substantial reduction or elimination of the mobility and volatility of the dopant in the polymer matrix, a phenomenon known as "photolocking". The described class of dopant permits the attainment of higher resolution than previously reported, as well as the preparation of optical direction couplers having higher coupling strengths than those of the prior art.

Abstract: A technique for the fabrication of thin film electrets designed for use in electroacoustic transducers involves depositing a thin film of aluminum or titanium upon a perfluorinated foil and etching away the film prior to deposition of gold. The resultant structure evidences superior adhesion characteristics and electrical characteristics comparable to those previously described.

Abstract: A technique for preparing a wide range of fulvalenes by a reductive procedure is described. The procedure involves reducing an organic halide to its corresponding partially hydrogenated derivative which is reacted with fluoboric acid to yield a fluoborate. Deprotonation of the fluoborate yields the desired compound. The described technique maximizes the yield and quality of fulvalenes produced and permits the preparation of thia, selena and tellura fulvalenes.
