Abstract: A blind rivet set verification system for setting a blind rivet and assessing the acceptability of the rivet set by measuring and comparing the length of the spent mandrel stem. The system includes a rivet setting apparatus and a programmed system control circuit. The apparatus includes a rivet setting tool, a mandrel stem collection box, and a collection tube connecting the tool and the box. The spent mandrel stems pass from the rivet tool to the collection box through the tube. Along the collection tube are provided a pair of sensors. The sensors are positioned in relatively close proximity to each other and to the box and provide the control circuit with information required to identify and compare mandrel stem length.

Abstract: A fastening device is described with which rod-shaped articles of different diameters can be fastened on a substrate. The fastening device consists of a U-shaped base body in which a rod-shaped article can be arranged and which can be connected to the substrate, and of a beam-shaped closure member with which the arms of the "U" can be closed. One end of the beam-shaped closure member can be connected to the base body via a catch connection with teeth. At the other end of the beam-shaped closure member there is shaped a joint lug which forms a hinge-like joint with a joint pin shaped on the base body. The fastening of the article can be achieved after a rod-shaped article has been inserted into the base body by pivoting the closure member and engagement on the opposite end of the joint. Different diameter articles can be fastened on account of the teeth.

Abstract: A metal fastener for use in attaching parts to a workpiece, for example a car bumper to a car body panel, is made in two pieces, which may be fixed together for example by a force fit, by adhesive or by welding. The fastener comprises a body, a thin walled portion which can be expanded to set the fastener, and two spaced apart head flanges. One of the two parts comprises the body and the other at least one of the head flanges.
