  • Patent number: 4428380
Abstract: A method and associated means for producing simultaneous electrical representations of the electrical and acoustical (heart sound) activity of the heart, in which a pickup device and associated circuits produce a full wave rectified symmetrical heart sound signal annotated by pulses developed from the QRS wave of the electrocardiogram signal. The pickup device is designed to permit the direct (unbuffered) application of the pickup electrodes to the skin of the body and to provide a control of the associated circuits when not in contact with the body to shorten response times when the pickup device is placed in contact with the body.

  • Patent number: 4313033
Abstract: Apparatus and method for processing sound as delta modulated digital data bits. A speaker console communicates with a listener console through a central switching unit. Tri-state generators within the central switching unit convert bipolar data modulated speaker data to tri-state logic which is then multiplexed onto a bus. The bus is sampled by a plurality of listener modules of a majority detector unit according to desired speaker combinations and a majority output is thereby determined for each time slot. A data generator modifies a bipolar delta modulated idle waveform according to the state of the idle waveform and the historical output of a listener module, incrementing and decrementing a carry register and a borrow register in the data generator to reflect storage, insertion or cancelling of majority "ones" or "zeros". The combining logic of the data generator enables the central switching unit to produce a combined output having the initial speaker data bit rate.

  • Patent number: 4240046
Abstract: A laser utilizing a unique assembly for mounting a Brewster angle window. The mounting assembly includes an elongated annular member having a transverse slot at the appropriate Brewster angle to the plane perpendicular to the axis of the annular member. A rectangular window is held in place in the slot by the tension of a leaf spring. The mounting assembly may then be inserted in place at either the anode or cathode ends of the laser and permanently held in place without introducing any stresses in the window or affecting its alignment.

  • Patent number: 4232275
Abstract: A low cost improved adjustable mirror mount is disclosed. The adjustable mirror mount includes an inner cylindrical member one end of which is sealed to a laser tube and a mirror is mounted to the other end. The midsection circumference of the inner cylindrical member may be thinner in order that it be easily deflected about its axis. An outer cylindrical member is coaxial to and surrounds the inner cylindrical member. A plurality of adjustment screws are radially disposed at the end of the outer member for deflecting the inner cylindrical member and the mirror. Thus, the angle of the mirror to the axis of the laser discharge tube is very accurately adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4227201
Abstract: A liquid crystal light valve which uses the transfer of charge carriers representing a plurality of signals from a CCD array to a liquid crystal light modulated display medium. The signal charge is extracted from the back side of the CCD by driving the CCD clock voltages to zero and allowing the charge to diffuse to the back side where it is collected in a charge depleted region formed by a reverse biased diode and injected into the interface layers of a liquid crystal display medium.

  • Patent number: 4159873
Abstract: This invention is an improved ranging system including an improved digital single shot circuit that has a resettable shift register therein so that a signal representative of the last target return occurring at any point of a predetermined range interval will be provided to the timing counter of the system. The digital single shot circuit includes a flip flop responsive to the first trigger pulse during the predetermined range interval, resetting the shift register so that, when the output pulse from the shift register representing the last target return is applied to the timing counter, it will terminate a fixed number of clock edges after the last trigger pulse determined by the number of stages of the shift register. The fixed delay in terminating the output of the shift register may represent the preset time of the readout counter.

  • Patent number: 4142198
Abstract: There is disclosed an all silicon monolithic focal plane array of infrared detectors for image detection. The structure comprises an epitaxial layer grown on an extrinsically doped silicon substrate. The detectors are formed in and extend through the substrate, the material of which is sensitive to specific wavelength infrared signals according to the dopant used in the substrate. The collection of charges takes place on a buried layer formed around a portion of the epitaxial layer-substrate interface, and the charges are then transferred through a surface layer of the same conductivity type to the surface of the epitaxial layer. The signal readout function is performed by a charge coupled device shift register constructed in the epitaxial layer by providing selectively spaced electrodes in an insulating layer.

  • Patent number: 4127796
Abstract: Damage to the phosphorescent screen of a cathode ray tube (CRT) by an electron beam is minimized by preventing the display of a stationary image on the screen. This is accomplished by superimposing or adding to each of the normal electron beam deflecting voltages an additional triangular offset waveform, with the combined effect of the offset waveforms being to constantly move the entire electron scan pattern over an infrequently recurring path at a slow enough rate to be imperceptible to the viewer.
