  • Patent number: 4381044
Abstract: A compressed-gas seismic energy source suitable for underwater prospecting. The device has two gas storage cylinders placed at the opposite ends of a shuttle. The shuttle seals both storage cylinders when seated at the end of its stroke and releases gas for the desired sonic pulse from both cylinders during its stroke. Design of the device provides for simplicity of operation, ready modification of the sonic signature, and reliability of moving parts.

  • Patent number: 4373582
Abstract: This invention relates to a self-contained circulation sub which may be operated upon control from the surface. It may be in the shape of a short section of drill collar and utilizes a sleeve valve to cover the circulation ports. Upon reception of an acoustic signal from the surface, a control valve directs fluid from the pipe bore onto a pressure face on the sleeve valve. The sleeve valve then moves down and exposes the circulation ports thereby allowing drilling fluids to pass from its interior to its exterior.

  • Patent number: 4372706
Abstract: An apparatus to prevent the accidental release of a wire rope used, for instance, as an underwater guy wire on a guyed tower. The apparatus has a clamp attached to the wire rope which, when the rope is released, hits a stopping ram which presses into wedge-shaped rope grippers. The wedges squeeze the rope and stop against wedge blocks which are attached to an inside portion of the guyed tower.
