Patent number: 6696240Abstract: A miniaturized, vented capillary channel test strip device for estimating the concentration of an analyte in a fluid is disclosed. The channel transports analysis fluid through interior capillary space defined by the plastic casing of the device. The casing is preferably manufactured by flow injection molding. The capillary channel includes a reaction and a wicking component. Movement of analysis fluid from sampling to reaction to wicking site is enabled by a gradient of capillary force. The gradient is generated by a differential in surface/volume ratio between reaction and wicking component. The reaction component is comprised of a thin reagent film embodying the reactive chemicals, as well as a rehydrating polymer. The polymer absorbs a defined volume of analysis fluid. When the analysis fluid is whole blood, the polymer absorbs blood plasma. Surprisingly and uniquely, cellular component of blood is wholly removed from the reagent film surface by the gradient of capillary force.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2000Date of Patent: February 24, 2004Assignee: Micronix, Inc.Inventors: Hans G. Kloepfer, Mary A. Kloepfer, Charles W. Roach, Reinhard Hafellner, Bernd Mlekusch

Patent number: 6584736Abstract: A foam-type acoustic panel is designed to be mountable on a stand having a shaft. The acoustic panel includes a main body portion. The main body portion has a first end, a second end, a front surface, a rear surface, a top surface, a bottom surface, and first and second interlocking members. The first and second interlocking members define a multi-segment cut that extends between the top and bottom surface. The multi-segment cut includes a first end disposed at one of the front and rear surfaces, and a second end disposed interiorly of the other of the front and rear surfaces. The second end of the multi-segment cut defines an elongated aperture extending between the top and bottom surface for receiving a shaft of a stand.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2001Date of Patent: July 1, 2003Assignee: Auralex Acoustics, INCInventors: Jeffrey E. Patent number: 6540687Abstract: A method is disclosed for diagnosing, monitoring and treating cardiovascular pathologies. Among the hemodynamic parameters of interest are peripheral resistance, compliance, and cardiac (left ventricular) output. Peripheral resistance determined according to the present invention has been found to be a reliable indicator, not only of hypertension, but also of the cause of the hypertension. The determined peripheral resistance can be compared against a predetermined threshold value. This comparison helps to foster a diagnosis of a hypertensive condition.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2000Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Pulse Metric, IncInventor: Shiu-Shin Chio

Patent number: 6516530Abstract: A solid core fixture for measuring a workpiece and a method for making the same. The solid core fixture includes a solid core made of a homogeneous material, a skin layer covering the solid core, and a surface material covering a portion of the skin layer. The surface material is machined for measuring the workpiece. The skin layer preferably includes an inner skin covering the solid core, a skin core attached to the inner skin and an outer skin attached to the outer surface of the skin core, the three layers being molded in a single process and cured together. A method of making the solid core fixture includes the steps of fabricating a plug core from a homogeneous material; attaching the plug core to a base; applying a skin layer to the plug core and the base; curing the skin layer; covering a portion of the skin layer, after curing, with a surface material; and machining the surface material for measuring the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1999Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: Applied Composites Engineering, Inc.Inventor: Leigh R. Patent number: 6490939Abstract: An improved sensor and system of attaching sensors to their associated equipment, tooling or product. This attachment device provides stability of the sensor, quick removal and installation and a definite seating position thus providing a consistent reference point. The sensor holding system combines a flange on the sensor with a groove for the engagement of pre-loaded spring biased balls, and an outer housing that incorporates an opposing flange for seating the sensor and a ring of radially inwardly biased pre-loaded balls to engage the circumferential groove in the sensors. The diameter of the outer housing is determined by the sensor body but is kept as small as practical.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1999Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignee: Applied Composites, Inc.Inventor: Leigh R. Patent number: 6386142Abstract: A modular pole system for birding includes different modules to allow the birder to custom design their birding pole to include a variety of birding accessories such as bird feeders, bird houses, artificial and natural perches and bird baths. The modules include (i) pole modules to secure the modular pole system to the ground and/or increase the overall length of the modular pole system, (ii) attachment modules to removably attach accessories to the pole modules, and (iii) cap modules that can be removably attached to pole modules to inhibit rain water from entering the inside of the pole modules. In particular, an auger pole module of the modular pole system is used in conjunction with a stabilizing pole attachment module to resist the adverse effects of wind. The auger module has an auger member fixedly and spirally secured thereto that facilitates the insertion of the auger module into the ground. The stabilizing module has a plurality of arms which distribute the force from the wind over a wider area.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2000Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignees: Wild Birds Unlimited, Inc., Holscher Products, Inc.Inventors: Joseph Holscher, James R.
