  • Patent number: 8350422
Abstract: A torsional vibration damper is integrated into a rotating electrical machine. A rotatable assembly of the electrical machine includes a rotor core pack having a first end and a second end. The integrated torsional vibration damper consists of a torsional elastic coupling and a torsional elastic damper and provides mechanical damping. The integrated torsional vibration damper is mounted to the rotatable shaft of the electrical machine by a flange. The rotor core pack is mounted at the first end to the integrated torsional vibration damper by suitable structure members such as a mounting flange and is not fixedly mounted directly to the rotatable shaft. In the case where the rotor core pack is cooled by circulating coolant fluid (e.g. MIDEL) then the integrated torsional vibration damper may be a viscous damper that uses the coolant fluid as a viscous working fluid.

  • Patent number: 8350188
Abstract: A method for material removal to a predetermined removal depth from a workpiece employs a laser beam consisting of one or more sub-beams, each of the latter having a defined beam axis. The axis of the laser beam or the individual axes of the sub-beams are guided along a removal line at a predetermined travelling speed and the laser beam has a predetermined spatial energy flow density that defines a Poynting vector S with a value I0f (x) and a direction s, the spatial energy flow density creating a removal face with an apex formed by the leading part of the removal face in the removal direction and the face, creating a removal edge.

  • Patent number: 8345552
Abstract: Virtual connection route selection apparatus and techniques are disclosed. At a communication traffic routing apparatus, metric information associated with multiple different routes for a virtual connection, such as a PseudoWire, toward a destination is collected. The metric information may be collected from one or more remote route computation elements capable of computing routes for virtual connections between the routing apparatus and other routing apparatus over an underlying communication system, or during actual establishment of the virtual connections, for example. An initial or re-optimized route for a virtual connection can then be selected at the routing apparatus based on the collected metric information. In some embodiments, although the virtual connection routes are paths computed by Path Computation Elements (PCEs), actual path selection decisions are distributed to routers.

  • Patent number: 8334103
Abstract: The present invention provides improved and rapid detection methods for an antigen such as a chemical compound, a peptide, a nucleic acid, or a protein released from cells or virus particles in situ. The detection time for an antigen can be dramatically reduced relative to conventional technologies. The technology can particularly be used, for example, to modify and reduce the detection time significantly in traditional ELISA, and also Western blot or Dot blot assays. The improved ELISA method is rapid, economical, reproducible, simple and automatable. Also provided are compositions and kits for using the improved ELISA methods for the rapid detection of antigens.

  • Patent number: 8324521
Abstract: An improved bellows for use in a vacuum interrupter includes a plurality of corrugations extending along a central axis, with each convolution including a convolution element and a support element. Each convolution element has a convolution length along the central axis and a convolution height perpendicular to the central axis. In a first embodiment, the convolution height of the various corrugations increases between two ends of the bellows. In an embodiment, the bellows height increases gradually between the two ends, and in another embodiment the convolution height increases in a stepwise fashion. The convolution length can likewise change gradually or stepwise between the ends of the bellows. The convolution height alternatively can remain the same throughout a bellows, but the convolution length may change.
