  • Patent number: 8069677
Abstract: Liquefied natural gas is regasified to form natural gas, including circulation of an intermediate fluid between a vaporizer and an ambient air heater, where the intermediate fluid is warmed by exchanging heat with the ambient air as the intermediate fluid passes through the ambient air heater, and the intermediate fluid is cooled by exchanging heat with LNG as the intermediate fluid passes through the vaporizer. The ambient air heater is subjected to a defrosting cycle by intermittently regulating the temperature of the intermediate fluid fed to the ambient air heater to a temperature greater than zero degrees Celsius using a source of supplemental heat.

  • Patent number: 8056424
Abstract: A fluid flow device having a vortex generator in two or more channels, each channel having a section to scale the flow velocity to a desirable range of Reynolds number, and vortex shedding and/or vortex passing frequency. Said flow device may be used as a flow meter by measuring the vortex shedding/passing frequency from each vortex generator. Further improvement is had by selecting the highest usable frequency, with its corresponding scaling factor, as the most-precise and fastest-response measurement output of the flow-measuring device. Still further improvement is obtained by cross-checking all usable frequencies against each other to detect failure of one or more vortex shedding/passing sensors.

  • Patent number: 8054865
Abstract: A secure information transmission system includes one or more transmitters and one or more receivers. The transmission waveform employed includes highly randomized, independent stochastic processes, and is secured as a separate entity from the information it carries. The signal, using novel modulation methodology reducing impulse responses, has a paucity of spectral information and may be detected, acquired and demodulated only by communicants generating the necessary receiving algorithm coefficients. The physical area of signal reception is restricted to that of each intended communicant, reception areas following movements of mobile communicants. A unique instant in time is used as basis for communications keys to the securing algorithms dynamically generated on a one-time basis and never exchanged or stored by communicants.

  • Patent number: 8054473
Abstract: A measurement mark on a substrate has a first section with first primary and first secondary lines. The first primary lines have a first width and are arranged at a first pitch and in alternating order with the first secondary lines. A second section comprises second primary and second secondary lines arranged in alternating order. The second primary lines have a second width that is different from the first width. The pitch of the primary lines and the distance between the primary and the secondary lines is the same in each case. The spectral response of both sections of the measurement mark is determined by an analyzer unit of a measurement apparatus, and a sign of a difference between target and actual widths of the lines is determined by comparing a first spectrum derived from the first section with a second spectrum derived from the second section.

  • Patent number: 8054070
Abstract: A field distributed array of a plurality of underwater sensors are used to detect, preferably using a nanomagnet, slight changes in magnetic fields caused by passing metallic structures, such as submarines. Each sensor is preferably configured to communicate with, e.g., an Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV), which then passes raw or aggregated information to a user (person or computing device). In one possible embodiment, an aircraft deploys hundreds of sensors on the “battlefield” (i.e., in the ocean). Some of the sensors are controlled to sink and anchor to the bottom, while others are controlled to float at a predetermined depth, from which they transmit data about their magnetic environs, such that a map of the geomagnetic field in the area can be generated. This type of distributed sensor system is particularly effective for antisubmarine warfare (ASW) operations across a wide area of a zone of operations.

  • Patent number: 8050196
Abstract: Network formation in wireless networks according to an embodiment of the present invention is enhanced based on control of network formation packet transmissions (e.g., Packet Radio Organizational Packet (PROP) transmissions). A source-initiated approach controls re-transmission of inquiry/reply PROP packets based on the presence of a neighboring node. This reduces the size and amount of PROP packets transmitted during neighbor discovery. In addition, the source-initiated approach controls re-transmission of PROP packets indicating a change in an upstream or control type node (e.g., LNC PROP). In this case, the node determines the presence of steady-state conditions (e.g., maintenance of conditions for the original LNC PROP transmission), and enables a single re-transmission of the LNC PROP packet, thereby reducing the transmission of unnecessary or duplicate LNC PROP packets (e.g., containing substantially the same information as previously transmitted packets since conditions have remained the same).

  • Patent number: 8051124
Abstract: A matrix multiplication module and matrix multiplication method are provided that use a variable number of multiplier-accumulator units based on the amount of data elements of the matrices are available or needed for processing at a particular point or stage in the computation process. As more data elements become available or are needed, more multiplier-accumulator units are used to perform the necessary multiplication and addition operations. To multiply an N×M matrix by an M×N matrix, the total (maximum) number of used MAC units is “2*N?1”. The number of MAC units used starts with one (1) and increases by two at each computation stage, that is, at the beginning of reading of data elements for each new row of the first matrix. The sequence of the number of MAC units is {1, 3, 5, . . . , 2*N?1} for computation stages each of which corresponds to reading of data elements for each new row of the left hand matrix, also called the first matrix.
