  • Patent number: 7954359
Abstract: An impact detection system according to the present invention includes an impact sensor, damage sensors and an electronics package. The impact sensor includes a fiber optic grid preferably attached to a target object to detect impact locations on the target. The damage sensors measure damage sustained by the object, while the electronics package monitors the fiber optic grid, records the impact location and sends information pertaining to the impact location and target damage through a telemetry link with limited bandwidth to a receiving station. In order to ensure transmission of desired information, the electronics package allocates telemetry bandwidth to sensor information most relevant to impact location and target damage to enable transmission in the limited time interval available prior to target destruction or impact detection system disablement. This is accomplished by dynamically allocating reporting priority to different sensors during an impact.

  • Patent number: 7957297
Abstract: A wireless router device is configured to detect a fault that would prohibit wireless communications between the router and a wireless wide area network. A message, referred to herein as a termination message, is then generated. The termination message contains information describing the fault and is configured to cause termination of wireless communication with the wireless wide area network. The wireless router than transmits the termination message to at least one base transceiver station that is part of the wireless wide area network. The base transceiver station is then able to assess and reallocate resources, including power management, based on the fault information contained in the received termination message.

  • Patent number: 7956795
Abstract: System and methods for reducing redundant messages broadcast in an Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) system. For a given target, a controller determines the relevant customers that should receive information about the target, identifies all of the ground stations that can be satisfactorily heard by the relevant customers, and then identifies a smaller subset of ground stations by selecting only those ground stations that are needed to reach all of the relevant customers. ADS-B messages are then broadcast to the relevant customers using only the smaller subset of ground stations.

  • Patent number: 7953883
Abstract: Techniques are provided herein for failover streaming mechanisms. At a first device (e.g., a content router device) that is configured to interface with a plurality of streaming servers for real-time protocol packet streams, communications are configured with a client device and a first of the plurality of streaming servers associated with a streaming session from the first streaming server to the client device so that the first device receives client session control and session feedback messages associated with the streaming session and so that a packet stream associated with the streaming session transmitted by the first streaming server to the client device does not pass through the first device. The first device stores session state information comprising an address of the client device, streaming session identification information and data representing a current state of the streaming session at the client device derived from the client session control and session feedback messages.

  • Patent number: 7948929
Abstract: A communication system generates a constant-envelope composite signal containing at least two signals whose power levels, bandwidths, and/or data rates are independently controllable. Binary offset carrier (BOC) modulation is applied to the signals to be combined in the composite signal. The BOC modulated signals are then combined via interplex modulation to form a constant-envelope composite signal in which the constituent signals modulate different offset carriers. For example, real BOC modulation can be used to generate a ranging signal in edge portions of the transmission band of the composite signal, while complex BOC modulation can be used to generate a frequency agile data signal in a center portion of the transmission band. Such a signal can be used for full duplex communications in satellite crosslinks. The interplex modulation allows independent control of the power levels of the two signals while maintaining a constant envelope, permitting use of saturated RF amplifiers.

  • Patent number: 7949032
Abstract: A secure information transmission system includes one or more transmitters and one or more receivers. The transmission waveform employed includes highly randomized, independent stochastic processes, and is secured as a separate entity from the information it carries. The signal, using novel modulation methodology reducing impulse responses, has a paucity of spectral information and may be detected, acquired and demodulated only by communicants generating the necessary receiving algorithm coefficients. The physical area of signal reception is restricted to that of each intended communicant, reception areas following movements of mobile communicants. A unique instant in time is used as basis for communications keys to the securing algorithms dynamically generated on a one-time basis and never exchanged or stored by communicants.

  • Patent number: 7944389
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring and classifying RF emissions in the field include storing an electronic signature map (ESM) of a selected geographic area, where the electronic signature map includes previously detected emitter closeness measures (ECMs) in the selected geographic area. The ECMs are representative of detected sources of radio frequency energy. A RF energy emission is detected, a new ECM for that RF energy emission is created, and that the new ECM is compared with the ECMs in the ESM. That comparison may help to determine whether the RF energy emission should be considered a threat.
