Abstract: Bisphenols are prepared from cyclic monoterpene precursors and high glass transition temperature polymers are prepared from bisphenols. More particularly, substantially pure 4-[1-[3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4 -methylcyclohexyl]-1-methylethyl] phenol and 4,4'-[1-methyl -4-methylethyl)-1,3-cyclohexandiyl] bisphenol are isolated and high glass transition temperature bisphenol polycarbonates are prepared.

Abstract: Novel thermally stable resins comprising halogens and not epoxide termination groups are described. The thermally stable resins may be employed in polymer systems to yield flame retardant polymer compositions.
Abstract: Bisphosphine oxide monomers and homologs thereof may be incorporated into polycarbonates in order to obtain a flame retardant polymer. More particularly, bis[2,5-(diphenylphosphine oxide)]-1,4-hydroquinone and homologs thereof may be used to prepare flame retardant polycarbonates that retain high glass transition temperature and high impact resistances.
Abstract: Spherical monodispersed polymeric particles are prepared from vinyl monomers and crosslinking polymerizable polyvinyl monomers. More particularly, a novel process for producing spherical monodispersed gel particles that are about 1-6 .mu.m in size and contain at least about 0.5 to about 3 weight percent (based on polymerizable vinyl monomer/vinyl polymer) of a polymerizable polyvinyl monomer is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of combining an isoalkanol solvent, a polymerizable vinyl monomer and a crosslinking polymerizable polyvinyl monomer under timed and monitored conditions.

Abstract: Novel thermoplastic olefin copolymers and blends comprising the same are prepared from precursor functionalized olefin polymers and functionalized addition polymers. Additionally, the thermoplastic olefin copolymers comprise ester linkages and sulfide linkages.
Abstract: Novel silylated agents capable of absorbing ultraviolet light are incorporated into silicone hardcoats and used to coat polycarbonate substrates. The coated polycarbonate substrates display improved resistances to abrasion and ultraviolet light.
