Abstract: A control arrangement for a gas-fired system. Three diaphragm-operated valves are in series providing a stage operation. The valves are pilot controlled. A booster pump is provided for cooperation with the pilot valves to boost the line pressure to the first of the valves, the boosted pressure being sufficient to operate the diaphragm valves, and the boosted pressure being controlled by the pilot valves. The booster pump operates only when needed. Diaphragm-operated pilot valves means are provided which operate two separate pilot valves which control the pressure on the opposite sides of the diaphragm of the diaphragm valves. The system provides stage operation, the stages including a first stage which is closing of a vent valve connected between disphragm control valves, opening of a first diaphragm valve, and a third stage which is a controlled slow opening of the second diaphragm control valve. The first diaphragm valve is both a control valve and a pressure regulator.
Abstract: Malonic anhydride and substituted malonic anhydrides are prepared by ozonolysis of the enol-lactone dimers of ketenes. The resulting malonic anhydrides can be hydrolyzed with water to form the corresponding acid, reacted with an alcohol to yield the monoester, or reacted with an amine to yield the monoamide.

Abstract: An implement which is a stack starter. A wheeled chassis is provided and mounted on it is a stack starting frame which can be moved between a horizontal position and a vertical position to provide an upright against which a stack of hay bales can be started. The frame is in a horizontal position for transportation and can be latched in a vertical position for use to start the stack. The bales of hay are loaded on a flat bed wagon or truck by a loading machine. The flat wagon has prongs or rakes at one end. To start a stack the bed of the wagon is moved to a vertical position with the prongs or rakes underneath the stack with the bales up against the starting frame. The wagon is then backed away from the stack. The stack is started, that is held in that position by the stack starting frame. The next load is loaded up against the first which is against the starting frame.
Abstract: N-chlorosulfinylcarbamate esters are produced by the reaction of thionyl chloride with carbamate esters having one unsubstituted hydrogen on the carbamate nitrogen atom, preferably in the presence of a hydrogen chloride acceptor. The resulting N-chlorosulfinylcarbamate esters are useful intermediates in the preparation of pesticides having relatively low mammalian toxicity.

Abstract: A thermally actuated switch which embodies an active unit which includes a heat responsive element which is part of an enclosure enclosing electrical resistance elements for heating. Heat is applied internally to the enclosure and cooling is by way of dissipation of heat externally from the enclosure. The thermally responsive element is in the form of a flat plate which expands lengthwise. The plate engages the shorter arm of a pivoted bell crank lever, which along with the leaf spring engages the actuating member to be actuated.

Abstract: A sliding charge receiver is slidably positioned under a powder feed hopper for receiving a charge from the hopper and delivering it to a feed chute. The sliding member has a hole to receive a powder charge from the hopper. The hole is adjustable in size by a safety adjustment. The hole is formed in the end of a slot. A secondary slider is movable in the slot to adjust the size of the hole. The secondary slider is on a threaded stem within the slot which is threaded through a rotatable bushing or rotor. The stem can be locked in position by an elongated nut that extends through a hole in the end of the sliding member. By releasing the elongated nut, the secondary slider, threaded stem and rotor can be rotated, moving the secondary slider out of the slot so that the secondary slider and stem can be rotated to provide fine adjustments of the position of the secondary slider and of the charge hole in the sliding member with assured safety of the adjustment.
Abstract: A wire basket assembly for use with simulated wire wheels. A circular wire frame having generally radial wire members simulating a wire wheel and having a central opening is provided to fit over the outer end of a sub cap of a wheel. The frame forms a basket which encloses the inner part of the wheel, including the stud bolt openings. Included with the wire frame is a central polished cup member which covers the bolt holes of the wheel. The wire frame member has inner members which are attachable to the cup member which fits over the hub of the wheel. The frame member and cup member are secured to the hub of the wheel and preferably by the outer cap and cap screw. The assembly results in a desired improved appearance and direct simulation of the wire wheel with the attaching stud bolts covered by the polished cup member.
Abstract: An appliance or aid for use in practicing acupressure or finger pressure therapy. An individual is able to apply finger pressure therapy to himself, to various parts of the anatomy, but of course not to other parts, that is areas of the back, because they cannot be reached. The appliance embodies a holder or platform carrying knobs or protuberances which simulate the fingers for applying the therapeutic pressure. The individual places himself on, that is lays on the appliance, with the appliance positioned so that the simulated fingers apply the therapeutic pressure in the desired areas. A plurality of protuberances or knobs is provided and they are readily removable from the base or platform, the structure for attachment or securement of the protuberances providing for securement in the desired geometrical patterns configurated to be appropriate to apply the therapy to particularized areas established in accordance with knowledge of finger pressure therapy.
Abstract: An article of manufacture for use with automatic gas dispensing nozzles of the type having a handle and having an actuating lever. Typically the actuating lever is curved to be grasped by the user's fingers. In full service stations a latch is provided on the handle for latching the actuating lever in any one of three different positions wherein there are different rates of flow from the nozzle to accomodate different types of cars. Typically the nozzle shuts off automatically when the tank fills up. The article is used at self service pumps with nozzles not equipped with such a latch. The article is a holder member, preferably of triangular configuration, shaped to fit between the curved part of the actuating lever and a part of the nozzle handle to hold the lever in actuated position. The article is shaped to have three positions for holding the actuating lever, in any one of its three operating positions.
Abstract: A fast, efficient, economical method of daily oral hygiene designed for home use to replace the present ineffective methods such as brushing, water flushing, flossing, etc.The method is particularly for removing plaque. A nontoxic and relatively nonabrasive solid material in pellet form is entrained in a stream of liquid, preferably water and discharged as a jet against the teeth and adjacent areas in the mouth. The pellets are of soluble material which preferably is halite and in various sizes generally in the range from 0.010 inches to 0.030 inches at the time of striking the teeth. The pellets strike with a point impact thereby having sufficient energy to remove plaque from the teeth. If any pellets should lodge under the gums they would dissolve thereby preventing a possible abscess. Mechanical apparatus of simplified form can be utilized to entrain the solid particles in the liquid stream.
