  • Patent number: 5548092
Abstract: An image processing apparatus functioning as a writing device that images information as it is written on to a surface by measuring the forces applied at the stylus tip. The imaging device includes a ink pen cartridge and strain gauges mounted along the longitudinal axis of the cartridge. The strain gauges measure lateral forces deflecting the pen cartridge, and the longitudinal forces pressing the cartridge into the pen housing. Alternatively, strain gauges can also determine the force of the pen tip against the writing surface. The gauges generate signals representative of the forces applied to the pen point as the pen moves along or presses against a writing surface. A further set of sensors can be employed to determine movement and orientation of the device relative to the surface even when the pen is not in contact with the surface. Data representative of the written images are captured by analyzing the forces applied to the pen point.

  • Patent number: 5543914
Abstract: An improved interferometric measuring system that includes a system for measuring a phase difference between two coherent beams oscillating at substantially the same frequency, and including a phase modulator disposed into optical communication with one of the coherent beams and being adapted to generate a phase modulated beam signal. A beam combiner combines the phase modulated beam signal with the second one of the coherent beams to generate a combined beam signal. A detector element measures the intensity of the combined beam signal and a date processor analyzes the intensity to determine from the harmonic components of the combined beam signal the phase difference between the two coherent beams.

  • Patent number: 5498108
Abstract: An anchoring device comprises an elongated element (1) introduceable into a hole (10) and means for securing the element against withdrawal from the hole. The securing means comprise at least one part (5, 13, 16) movably connected to the elongated element (1) and adapted to project transversely beyond the periphery of the element to be brought into contact with a wall (12) of the hole. The part is adapted to move, on traction of the element (1) introduced into the hole (10) in a direction out of the hole, relative to the element (1) by means of friction generation against the hole wall (12) while increasing the combined transverse dimension of element (1) and part (5, 13, 16) to the corresponding transverse dimension of the hole and to tend to increase this combined transverse dimension further on continued traction in the element.

  • Patent number: 5470019
Abstract: A device for heating boilers (1) in heating plants comprises a means (2) for heating a heat carrying medium present in the boiler and circulating out thereof in the heating plant as well as a means (11) adapted to detect the temperature of the heat carrying medium present in the boiler and send signals to the heating means (2) to start and stop the heating of the medium when a first lower temperature level is underpassed and a second higher temperature level is exceeded, respectively, by the medium in the heating boiler (1). The device comprises further means (12) adapted to delay the start of the heating means (2) when the first temperature level is reached by the medium and this is detected by the detecting means (11).
