  • Patent number: 6303015
Abstract: Metallic glass/amorphous metal electrodes produced by rapid solidification (i) having a structure that is either amorphous or nanocrystalline, (ii) containing tile principal alloying element as Ni, (iii) containing alloying additions of Co and at least one member of group IVB, VB, VIB VIIB and/or VIIIB, preferably Cr and V, in the range of 0 to 20 at. %, and when combined with Ni, represent 0.75 to 0.85 of the atomic fraction of the alloy, and (iv) containing metalloid elements comprised preferably of one or more of the elements C, B, Si and P either singly or in combination to represent 0.15 to 0.25 atomic faction of the alloy. The electrodes have excellent thermal stability, improved stability in an aqueous electrolyte and can provide improved current efficiency—anodic overpotential performance. They are used in the electrolysis of aqueous electrolyte solutions such as mixtures of caustic and water in the production of oxygen and hydrogen.

  • Patent number: 6284336
Abstract: A filled structure includes a fiber reinforced resinous hollow structure having a tensile strength of at least 30,000 psi, and an inside surface forming a boundary which defines a space. A hard core is provided within the space. The hard core has a density of at least 35 pounds per cubic foot and a compressive strength of at least 1500 psi. The hard core is formed from a mixture of particulate cementitious material and liquid. At least one tendon under stress is provided in the hard core. The tendon is constructed and arranged to exert permanent stress on the hard core.

  • Patent number: 6254741
Abstract: An improved electrochemical system includes at least two cells. Each cell defines an anolyte chamber and a catholyte chamber, and includes at least an anode electrode adjacent to the anolyte chamber, and a cathode electrode adjacent to the catholyte chamber. At least one unitary one piece double electrode plate is provided having an electrically conducting frame. At least two single electrode plates are provided, each including an electrically conducting frame for supporting an anode electrode or a cathode electrode. A separator is between the catholyte and anolyte chambers and has at least a peripheral frame formed of a compressible elastomer. An anolyte chamber forming frame formed of a compressible elastomer and a catholyte chamber forming frame member formed of a compressible elastomer are provided within each cell. The anolyte and catholyte chamber forming frame members and the peripheral frame of the separator are compressed to form fluid tight seals when the electrochemical system is assembled.

  • Patent number: 6213715
Abstract: A fan structure includes a fan head having a plurality of blades mounted for rotation. A mechanism is coupled to the fan head and is constructed and arranged to move the fan head along a surface of a sphere in a three dimensional pattern. At least one motor is constructed and arranged to cause rotation of the blades and movement of the mechanism. The mechanism thus provides both back-and-forth and up-and-down motion of the fan head.

  • Patent number: 6203046
Abstract: Adaptor structure is provided for towing a pintle hitch trailer behind a truck having a fifth wheel ball mount. The adaptor structure includes a mounting plate constructed and arranged to be mounted to a surface of a tongue of a trailer to be towed. The mounting plate includes a mounting tab extending from opposing ends of the mounting plate. Beam structure is provided having first and second ends. The first end is removably coupled to the mounting tabs by a pin connection. The second end includes a fifth wheel ball receptacle constructed and arranged to engage a fifth wheel ball mount of a truck. A tension arm is coupled at one end thereof to the beam structure at a position between the first and second ends of the beam structure. Another end of the tension arm defines a pintle hitch coupler constructed and arranged to engage a pintle eye of the trailer.
