  • Patent number: 4099616
Abstract: A package of and a bag for two bottles. The bag is made from an unsupported and unreinforced thin plastic material that is substantially incapable of safely supporting the weight load of the bottles from a single thickness area of the bag material. In the package the bag has two substantially stretched and tensioned areas. One of the areas is a band about the body portion of the bottles. The other area is a band that includes gathered and secured material, part of which is a handle. The two stretched and tensioned band areas of the bag cooperate together and with the bottles to firmly hold the bottles together and enable the weight load of the bottles to be safely and securely carried from the handle.

  • Patent number: 4079571
Abstract: A container control mechanism for use in certain types of package forming machines which produce packages of a plurality of containers. The certain package forming machines are those where three or more rows of containers are continuously delivered through the machine, and in which the machine applies a strip of carrier stock circumferentially about the upper end of each of the containers. The containers in rank and file with the applied carrier stock are delivered to a cutting mechanism adjacent the output end of the machine where the stock is severed between certain predetermined ranks to form individual packages of a predetermined plurality of ranks of the containers.

  • Patent number: 4066166
Abstract: A multipackage of a group of bottles and a bag-like or bundling device. The group of bottles are arranged in two adjacent rows and in transverse ranks perpendicular to the rows. The bag-like device is formed from a thin flexible material and essentially comprises three elements, a band portion that securely encircles the sidewall peripheral surface of the group of bottles, a bottom wall that is integrally connected between the lower edges of at least two sidewalls of the device, and an upper portion that comprises a gathered and secured arrangement of at least a pair of flaps integrally connected to the upper ends of two opposed sidewalls of the device. The gathered and secured flaps are arranged to form tensioned truss elements that extend diagonally from opposite corners of the group of bottles. The securement of the tensioned truss elements is substantially at the height of the bottle caps of the group of bottles and substantially midway between the bottles of the center rank of bottles.

  • Patent number: 4064989
Abstract: A shipping carton construction comprising a closed carton containing a plurality of containers. The containers upstand in the carton in side-by-side abutting positions and are arranged in groups with a packaging device for each group. The packaging device is formed from a resilient deformable plastics sheet material in the shape of a plurality of bands arranged in two adjacent rows. The bands are circumferentially applied about the individual containers to separate and cushion the individual containers in a spaced-apart relationship so that in transport and handling, containers having a high finish are not scratched or marred.

  • Patent number: 4043209
Abstract: A hydrostatic bearing lubrication system for a swash plate compressor or engine in which the compressor or engine has at least one reciprocating piston assembly mounted in a cylinder and connected to and reciprocating with a stator in which a rotating and oscillating rotor is mounted. At least one hydrostatic bearing shoe is mounted within the stator in a bearing relationship with the side of the rotor subject to the highest loads in the operation of the compressor or engine. In such a compressor or engine the invention comprises means for continuously varying the pressure of the lubricating fluid delivered to the bearing shoe directly with the load on the bearing shoe. That means comprises a closed cylinder with a free piston carried therein. One end of the closed cylinder on one side of the free piston is interposed in the lubricating fluid pressure line from a constant pressure lubricating fluid pump to the bearing shoe.

  • Patent number: 4033457
Abstract: A reel-windable container carrier stock which is formed from a thin resilient plastics sheet material and wound upon a reel with substantial numbers of carriers in the strip for machine application of the strip to containers such as cans to form multipacks. The longitudinal center portion of each carrier in the strip is formed with certain curvilinear tabs to increase the mass of the plastics sheet material on each side of the longitudinal center line of the strip to provide that as the carrier is wound upon the reel the carrier will have a reel configuration with a central annular circumferential hump. That reel configuration provides for excellent high speed winding characteristics of the carrier stock.

  • Patent number: 4031832
Abstract: A planting system including a growing container which is inserted into the ground absent wall portions thereof and from which the plant growing in the remaining portions in the ground may grow into a mature plant, such, for example, as a tree. The container comprises a frame and a thin removable and discardable sleeve in all embodiments. The planting system further includes methods of planting the containers. Also, hand tools for planting the containers are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4018331
Abstract: Multipackaging devices made of a resilient plastics-material such as low density polyethylene. The devices are made in strip form and are integrally interconnected longitudinally of the strip for continuous machine application to adjacent rows of containers with selective transverse severance of the applied strip to form individual packages of selected members of containers. The strip comprises a row of bands along each side thereof with intersecting and diagonally arranged substantially straight-line band segments extending between the side bands. The band segments cooperate with each other and with the side bands to define additional intermediate bands between the side bands. The strip is substantially narrower than the width of the rows of containers so that substantial transverse stretching of the strip is required to apply the side and intermediate bands to the rows of containers.

  • Patent number: 4005245
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to improvements in plastic preforms adapted for telescopic association with a complementary smooth surfaced mandrel such as is used in conventional plastic blow molding machines. More particularly, the present invention contemplates a novel type of plastic preform as herein, which comprises an elongate hollow plastic member, the inner surface of which in the aggregate conforms generally with the shape defined by the smooth peripheral surface of a complementary mandrel. The inner peripheral surface of the hollow plastic member or preform below the rim portion presents a plurality of circumferentially spaced surface portions adapted for initial direct impingement with restricted areas of the peripheral surface of a complementary smooth surfaced mandrel, the spacing between the said surface areas of impingement providing passageways extending generally longitudinally throughout substantially the entire longitudinal extent of the plastic member.

  • Patent number: 3957415
Abstract: Method and apparatus for converting, by reshaping, thin-walled nestable plastic containers into non-nestable container products wherein the nestable container is telescopically mounted on and releasably locked to a complementary male mold member, the nestable container thereafter being heated to a predetermined temperature to permit ready deformation thereof, and subsequently expanded against the non-nestable inner wall configuration of a mold cavity by differential fluid pressure to form non-nestable container products. In order to mold uniform container products by a continuous molding operation, the nestable plastic container is held in fixed relation relative to the male mold member in the vicinity of its open mouth where the container is insulated from heat.
