Abstract: A shaving unit includes a skin engagement surface member for contact with the skin in advance of a blade edge and defined by a series of resiliently mounted elements (9) defining between them slots (10) through which hairs can pass while being subjected to a light pulling force to increase the length of hair projecting from the skin prior to cutting. The skin engagement surface member may be a guard of the shaving unit or it can be mounted between two blades.
Abstract: The invention is directed to a gas-heatable appliance for personal use as, for example, a curling iron, a curling brush, a hair dryer, an epilating appliance, a domestic appliance, or the like, including a fuel gas reservoir, a combustion chamber, and a valve assembly disposed between the fuel gas reservoir and the combustion chamber for controlling and/or regulating the amount of fuel gas supplied, in particular in dependence upon temperature. There are further provided a valve housing (4) with a gas passageway (5, 15, 16) and a sealing element (6) associated with the gas passageway (5, 15, 16), as well as an actuator (7) for actuating the sealing element (6). The element is configured as a control member actuatable by a user and/or as a temperature-responsive actuator (7). In this arrangement, the sealing element (6) is actuated directly by the actuator (7).

Abstract: A razor blade assembly includes an elongate platform supporting a pair of blades and an elongate guard member disposed adjacent a forward edge of the platform. The guard member has a plurality of fins each spaced one from the other. In preferred embodiments each fin has its uppermost surface below a rearwardly disposed fin and the uppermost surfaces collectively lie on an outwardly convex arcuate surface, and each successively rearward fin is inclined more towards the leading blade edge than the preceding adjacent fin. The elongate platform is provided with a plurality of apertures extending through the platform between a plurality of webs and the guard member is molded in place onto the platform. Portions of the guard member material flow through the apertures and surround webs during the molding process to maintain the guard member in place.

Abstract: The invention is directed to bristles for a hairbrush, in particular for employment in an appliance for personal use as, for example, a curling iron, a curling brush, a hair dryer or the like, including a bristle base (3) and a bristle head (5). In this arrangement, the bristle base (3) is adapted to be fastened to a bristle supporting structure (7). The bristles (1) include at least two sections (9, 11) with cross-sectional areas of different sizes. A section with an increased cross-sectional area (11) adjoins the bristle base (3) having a reduced cross-sectional area, so that the bristle (1) is provided with a neck portion (17) between the bristle supporting structure (7) and the section with the increased cross-sectional area (11).

Abstract: The invention is directed to an air directing device for a hair dryer for acting upon the air stream exiting from the hair dryer, in which an air directing member (10) is configured as a substantially tubular body (12) having an inlet opening (14) and an outlet area (16) for the air. The air outlet area (16) comprises a plurality of individual orifices (18) configured and positioned such that the exiting air stream is split into a plurality of substantially independent free jets.
Abstract: The invention is directed to an air-moving pulsator (12) for an electric hair dryer (10) which, for the purpose of creating a pulsing action in the air stream, includes a rotor (20, 41) rotatably supported in a substantially tubular housing portion (13) and having an impeller (11) adapted to be impacted by the air stream exiting from the hair dryer (10), wherein there is arranged upstream of the rotor (20, 41), as seen when looking in the discharge direction of the air stream, a stator (38) provided with selectively moveable vanes for varying the pulsation frequency and adapted to impart rotation to the air stream about its axis. In a preferred embodiment, stator (38) is provided with air-directing blades (28) pivotally mounted on radially oriented spokes (26), and the air-directing blades (28) carry cam follower pins (31) at the ends of arms (29). A cam ring (32) is rotatably secured by outer ring (33) on the housing portion (13) and has helical camming slots (36) to cam the pins (31).
