  • Patent number: 7718068
Abstract: Wastewater treatment system and process in which the influent is passed through a mixing chamber and then through a series of filters of progressively smaller size to separate the materials carrying the colonized bacteria from finer solids in the influent and separate the materials according to size. The materials from the filters are progressively reduced to a smaller size, the materials of smaller size are returned to the mixing chamber, and new influent is inoculated with the colonized bacteria carried by the materials returned to the mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 7718488
Abstract: Self-aligned split-gate flash memory cell array and process of fabrication in which erase and select gates are positioned on opposite sides of stacked floating and control gates, with source regions in the substrate beneath the erase gates, bit line diffusions which are partially overlapped by select gates at the ends of the rows of the cells. The floating and control gates are self-aligned with each other, and the erase and select gates are split from but self-aligned with the stacked gates. With the floating gates surrounded by the other gates and the source regions, high voltage coupling for both programming and erase operations is significantly enhanced. The memory cells are substantially smaller than prior art cells, and the array is biased so that all of the memory cells in it can be erased simultaneously, while programming is bit selectable.

  • Patent number: 7708509
Abstract: Retainer for threaded fasteners such as the cap screws that secure the end caps of roller bearing assemblies to railroad axles. A locking plate is constrained against rotation relative to the fastener, a lock ring having a plurality of openings disposed along a circular path is placed over the head of the fastener, with the fastener being received in a non-circular central opening in the ring and thereby constrained against rotation relative to the ring, and tabs extending from the locking plate and engaging the lock ring through the openings to retain the lock ring on the fastener and prevent the lock ring and fastener from turning. In the disclosed embodiments, the ring can be placed on the fastener in different rotative positions, and the number of tab openings is either a prime number or another number that is not divisible by factors of the number of ring positions, whereby the fastener can be selectively locked in a relatively large number of different positions no more than a few degrees apart.

  • Patent number: 7658169
Abstract: Constant pressure internal combustion engine having compression and expansion chambers of variable volume, an elongated combustion chamber of substantially constant volume between the compression and expansion chambers, and a fuel inlet for introducing fuel into the combustion chamber where it mixes with compressed air from the compression chamber to form a mixture of fuel and air that burns as it travels through the combustion chamber. In some embodiments, the combustion chamber is folded back upon itself and has a rough, twisting interior side wall, with long, sharp protrusions extending inwardly therefrom and forming hot spots which help to provide complete combustion of the fuel mixture throughout the combustion chamber. These protrusions, together with flow turbulators within the chamber, promote complete mixing and, hence, combustion of the fuel and air in the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 7651455
Abstract: Dunnage making machine and method in which a web of paper is drawn across a forming bar with curved end sections to roll the edge portions of the paper, then drawn through a first throat section to urge the rolled edge portions toward each other and cause them to gather, and thereafter through a second throat section of lesser dimension than the first to gather the central portion of the paper and further gather the edge portions. The gathered paper is then pressed with a roller to crumple it, following which the crumpled paper is perforated along a serrated tear line.

  • Patent number: 7646641
Abstract: NAND flash memory cell array having control gates and charge storage gates stacked in pairs arranged in rows between a bit line diffusion and a common source diffusion, with select gates on both sides of each of the pairs of stacked gates. The gates in each stacked pair are self-aligned with each other, and the charge storage gates are either a nitride or a combination of nitride and oxide. Programming is done by hot electron injection from silicon substrate to the charge storage gates to build up a negative charge in the charge storage gates. Erasing is done by channel tunneling from the charge storage gates to the silicon substrate or by hot hole injection from the silicon substrate to the charge storage gates. The array is biased so that all of the memory cells can be erased simultaneously, while programming is bit selectable.
