  • Patent number: 6494500
Abstract: The present invention is a universal self-adjusting high pressure liquid connector for use with high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) columns requiring liquid-tight and leak free seals between fittings and unions. The present apparatus provides a liquid-tight seal between the end of a HPLC end fitting and a end cap thereby eliminating any potential dead volume in the area of the connection. The apparatus comprises a body, a fixed ferrule, a replaceable ferrule, a stem disposed in the body and a biasing spring slidingly mounted on a capillary tube of that extends through the connector. The spring biases the capillary tube of the connector into the HPLC end fitting, self-adjusting and maintaining a pressure sufficient to ensure a liquid-tight seal notwithstanding the depth of the HPLC tube stop or ferrule stop of the mating HPLC column.

  • Patent number: 6487731
Abstract: The present invention relates to oil toilets where oil is used as a sealant to isolate unpleasant smell produced by waste materials. Waste materials enter oil in the storage container and sink since both solid waste and urine have specific gravity that is higher than that of oil. Excess oil is collected in the overflow container. It has a component for collection of fumes that are formed by the waste materials collected in the toilet. A cleaning means is utilized to remove waste materials from the toilet while at the same time it could be modified to reuse a substantial amount of the oil present in the toilet.

  • Patent number: 6462732
Abstract: A cursor control device is provided which allows the user to have almost full use of the fingers of the hand for a wide range of tasks while the thumb is used to operate the cursor control device. The control body housing houses the cursor control means and could be secured anywhere on a hand by utilization of securing means. The cursor control device does not require any planar surfaces such as a table and can be operated in any orientation. In a preferred embodiment, the securing means is accomplished by utilization of securing body housing and the device has a capability to switch between two alternative configurations, the closed and open configurations. In the closed configuration the control body housing is placed on the securing body housing and could be held in a grip while thumb is free to operate the cursor control means.

  • Patent number: 6456785
Abstract: A system for electrically heating a flow of liquid singularly passing over a heating element contained within a housing. Liquid is inserted into the housing and passes over a heating element, with the straight embedded resistance wire, which causes the liquid to be heated faster and with less energy than would be employed by a coiled heating element. The heating element is composed of resistance wire connected to a conductor lead by a transition splice, all surrounded by compacted magnesium oxide encased within a stainless steel sheath.

  • Patent number: 6426041
Abstract: A sterilizable, surgical instrument tray that can deliver, in an instant nearly, 100 ringed surgical instruments held and displayed in a perpendicular fashion in a space and manner similar to that used by surgical scrub nurses on their operating room back tables, as well as hold and display with easy access, a number of forceps, knife handles and retractors. A surgical instrument tray, capable of retaining all the general/major/trauma instruments and arranging these instruments in such a way that said tray may be placed in the operating room in sterile manner, being ready for operational usage. Due to the design and construction of the tray, with recessed sections of applicable shape and size to accommodate certain instruments, upon extraction of the instruments from the tray, the instruments are in ready position to be relayed to the person performing the operation, with no further manipulation of the instruments.

  • Patent number: 6413349
Abstract: A method of manufacturing furniture or sculpture by cutting plies from a sheet material, laminating the plies into a beam element, and removing excess portions of the plies. Bars of similar diameters and lengths are cut. The beam elements are interconnected with other beam elements. The bars are inserted into some of the slots, grooves, cut-outs and tabulated apertures in beam elements. By orienting some of the beam elements or some of the bars to be in collinear alignment to a load acting upon the furniture, and by orienting some of the beam elements such that some of the individual plies are disposed with an edge facing forward, a structural object can be created.
