  • Patent number: 4387724
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel method for remotely detecting and monitoring on a long term basis the deep body temperature of a mammalian female which comprises the steps of attaching a temperature-sensing probe capable of remote interrogation to an expandable anchor, implanting the probe with the anchor attached thereto in collapsed condition within the vaginal canal, expanding the anchor to maintain the probe in place despite the animal's muscular efforts to expel same, interrogating the probe from a remote location on a daily basis at approximately the same time each day for a period not less than one complete estrous cycle, and noting any abrupt change in temperature within each cycle as an indication of physiological stress.

  • Patent number: 4382495
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved automatic four-wheel drive clutch of the type forming the subject matter of my copending application U.S. Ser. No. 180,699, now U.S. Pat. No. 4,369,868, but differing therefrom in that instead of employing axially-spaced toothed cam surfaces with toothed cam followers forming an operative connection therebetween effective upon relative rotation to move a drive member into and out of driving engagement with a driven element, circumferentially-spaced coaxial cam rings carrying opposed pairs of overlapped oppositely opening generally V-shaped track-forming grooves operatively interconnected by a single ball between each pair is used to shift the drive element axially between its engaged and disengaged positions.

  • Patent number: 4377157
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved device for intravaginal implantation in mammalian females characterized by an axially-extending hub encircled at both ends by a plurality of radially-extending springable spine-like fingers defining multi-pointed stars, the two stars being so located relative to one another and to the hub linking them together that no portion of the hub is left accessible to the vaginal wall musculature to a degree which will allow contortions thereof to expel the device while, at the same time, leaving sufficient hub exposed between the stars to receive and hold a small object no longer than it is nested within the fingers in protected relation.

  • Patent number: 4375990
Abstract: An improved basket assembly and method of making same of the type designed for use in a sugar centrifuge that includes an annular mounting flange containing an upwardly-flared frustoconical seat and an open-bottomed conical element adapted to mate in assembled relation with the aforementioned frustoconical flange seat. The apparatus is characterized by shaping the opposed surfaces at the lower end of the cone and base of the seat so as to cooperate with one another in assembled relation to define an upwardly-opening and inwardly-flared continuous annular groove for the reception of a weld. The apparatus also includes a circumferentially-spaced series of apertures in the wall of the cone opening onto the conical surface of the seat when assembled to receive a corresponding number of plug welds.

  • Patent number: 4369868
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an automatic four-wheel drive clutch characterized by a sliding gear subassembly having a toothed ring, a cam ring with concave toothed cans opposing the latter, and springs biasing them apart. The toothed ring is movable along the axle into meshed engagement with an opposed ring of teeth carried by a driven element that turns with the front steerable wheel. A first biasing element normally urges the sliding gear subassembly into disengaged position while a subassembly including a set of toothed rollers mounted for rotation within an annular gap left between a pair of concentric sleeve bearings mesh with a ring of teeth on a thrust plate defining a circular track for the rollers to run around while traveling along the cams.

  • Patent number: 4369976
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved version of my previously patented card game (U.S. Pat. No. 4,234,189) wherein the deck of fifty-two cards is divided as before into four suits of thirteen cards each; however, I now display on each card of each suit a single trump-determining category or genus effective to distinguish each such suit from the other three. In addition, while I retain the alphabetical indicia common to all four suits that is used to distinguish each card in a suit from the other twelve, I now display on each card specific identifying indicia which uniquely distinguishes each card from all other cards in the deck while, at the same time, falling within the particular trump-determining category of the suit within which the card is located. The latter indicia determines the so-called trump word within the trump suit and it can comprise either a word or words or a picture or a word or group of words and matching picture.
