Patent number: 8303641Abstract: A method of reducing blood flow within an aneurysm includes: injecting a contrast agent into a blood vessel including an aneurysm; deploying an occlusion device across the aneurysm; producing an image of the aneurysm including the contrast agent; and withdrawing the delivery device from the vessel after observing that the aneurysm has been obstructed by a desired amount. The image may be two-dimensional or three-dimensional. Observing that the aneurysm has been obstructed may include determining a degree of obstruction, for example by comparing an area or volume of the contrast agent in a first image and a second image. The desired amount may be a certain degree of obstruction, identification of a shape indicative of stasis such as a flat surface, an approximate hemisphere, a mushroom, or a crescent. If the occlusion device does not achieve the desired amount, a second occluding device may be deployed.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2010Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Tyco Healthcare Group LPInventors: Aaron Lee Berez, Quang Quoc Tran

Patent number: 8235941Abstract: A catheter used for treatment of complex vasculature, such as a bifurcated aneurysm, is provided with an inflatable balloon at a distal portion thereof. The shape, location and material of the inflatable balloon are selected such that when inflated, the balloon conforms to the shape of the complex vasculature, or at least a portion thereof, without appreciably deforming the vessel walls. In this manner, the balloon can be used to control flow in the vasculature, for example occluding a selected branch of the vasculature during introduction of material in order concentrate the material and minimize its disbursement by blood flow.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2007Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Tyco Healthcare Group LPInventors: Douglas Ray Hayman, Peter Gregory Davis, Maria De Jesus Sanson, Komonn Lim Reedy, Todd Jeffrey Hewitt

The catheter further includes an elongated shaft having at least one inner lumen, a distal end and a proximal end and proximal and distal vessel-conforming balloons where each is separately positionable and inflatable, and when inflated, substantially restricts blood flow in the vessel and creates a treatment window of a defined but variable length for delivery of the therapeutic agent. The catheter optionally includes at least one marker band adjacent to the proximal balloon and at least one marker band adjacent to the distal balloon. At least one lateral aperture positioned in the window is in fluid communication with a drug delivery conduit located within either the inner shaft or the outer shaft to provide a homogeneous concentration of the therapeutic agent to the window.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2009Date of Patent: April 24, 2012Assignee: Tyco Healthcare Group LPInventors: Neil Hattangadi, Daniel Lerner, Ryan Olivera

Patent number: 7838717Abstract: A composite wound dressing apparatus promotes healing of a wound via the use of a micropump system housed within a wound dressing member. The micropump system includes a miniature pump that applies a subatmospheric pressure to the wound to effectively draw wound fluid or exudate away from the wound bed without the need for an external vacuum source. Hence, the wound dressing and micropump system is portable which allows the patient mobility that is unavailable when an external vacuum source is used. The patient does not need to be constrained for any period of time while exudate is being removed from the wound.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2009Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Tyco Healthcare Group LPInventors: Kurt Haggstrom, Alain Tranchemontagne, Loredana Jinga

Patent number: 7825289Abstract: An apparatus for promoting the healing of a wound includes a pressure-sensitive adhesive disposed around a periphery of the wound, and a membrane layer in positioned over the wound with a lower surface in contact with the pressure-sensitive adhesive to form a substantially fluid-tight seal to define reservoir over the wound in which a negative pressure may be maintained. In fluid communication with the reservoir is a vacuum source suitable for providing an appropriate negative pressure to the reservoir to stimulate healing of the wound. A resilient member is placed over an upper surface of the membrane layer, and a compression member is configured to apply a compressive force to the resilient member. The resilient member distributes the compressive force to the membrane layer to reinforce the fluid tight-seal.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2008Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: Tyco Healthcare Group LPInventor: Mark A.
