  • Patent number: 6453579
Abstract: An athletic or therapeutic support shoe is disclosed that provides ankle support and support for the foot muscles underlying and surrounding the arch. The shoe is a dual lace-up type, with two layers, offset eyelets, and an “extra” eyelet at the ankle that allows adjustment to fit the wearer's foot and provides support. The interior layer effectively surrounds or encases the foot, or at least the arch and ankle, like a glove. An elastic “lining” and elastic inserts in the shoe provide additional flexibility and support. Strategically placed slits provide flexibility without loss of support.
