  • Patent number: 4392889
Abstract: A method and machine for recovering silver and polyester from exposed photographic X-ray film of the type having a polyester base coated with a sheath of polyvinyladine chloride and a photosensitive silver emulsion. Sheets of the film are fed through baths of hot caustic which successively remove the silver emulsion and deposit it as a sludge from which the silver is recovered and remove the polyvinyladine coating to permit the polyester to be recovered in a commercially acceptable pure form. Where the film sheets may include some acetate based film, the apparatus will distinguish between the polyester and acetate and discard the acetate bases as scrap, after the silver emulsion has been removed.

  • Patent number: 4373285
Abstract: A loading device and method for loading a muzzle loading gun. The device comprises an elongated attachment with a longitudinal bore across which is placed a frangible septum. The bore above the system is loaded with a premeasured powder charge and a projectile with wadding (if necessary). The attachment is placed on the end of the muzzle of the gun, the septum is sundered by sundering means within the attachment, the powder passes by the sundered septum and the projectile is rammed into position by a ram rod inserted through the upper open end of the bore of said attachment.

  • Patent number: 4358671
Abstract: A system which, by means of a specially devised instrument, affords the option of processing checks by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) procedure. The system includes a specially designed check having a punch out or other machine readable element which, by its presence and position, identifies the instrument as a check which may be processed by such EFT procedure. The check is also imprinted with certain covenants, which are stated as pertaining only to the processing of the check by EFT procedures. Therefore the check may also be used in completely routine fashion. The system is adapted to interpret such punch out or other machine readable elements and accompanying MICR data so as automatically route this check, as well as other types of banking instruments, in appropriate manners through clearance channels to the proper drawee.

  • Patent number: 3936003
Abstract: A burner for burning a mixture of a combustible gas and air including a curved wall member provided with a multiplicity of ports distributed throughout a substantial area of the wall. The ports are arranged in an ordered pattern such that every port, with the exception of a few along the edges of the burner, is surrounded by a plurality of closely adjacent ports. The size of each port and the distance between adjacent port edges are such that the jets of the gas-air mixture which issue from the ports merge into a common body of such mixture and form a closed lower pressure pocket around each port below such common body. The outer edges of such pocket are located above the minimum ignition level of each port and below the normal outer flame reach distance of the burner for the gas-air mixture supplied to the burner. As a result the flame produced by the burner may be stabilized in either of two regimes or in a combination of both depending upon the rate at which the mixture is supplied to the burner.
