  • Patent number: 7306058
Abstract: In a drilling apparatus of the type comprising a rotatable drilling shaft and a housing for rotatably supporting a length of the drilling shaft for rotation therein, a rotation restraining device associated with the housing for restraining rotation of the housing. In one embodiment, the rotation restraining device is comprised of at least one roller on the housing, the roller having an axis of rotation substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the housing and being oriented such that it is capable of rolling about its axis of rotation in response to a force exerted on the roller substantially in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the housing. In a further embodiment, the rotation restraining device is comprised of at least one piston on the housing.

  • Patent number: 7287603
Abstract: A drilling assembly (2) comprises upper (4) and lower (6) drill strings with a fluid passage (80) therethrough for distributing fluid to a bottom hole assembly (10). The upper drill string (4) has an upper end (11) connectable to a drilling apparatus (13) and fluid source (16) and a lower end (18) with an attached casing expander unit (20) that communicates the fluid passage (80) of the upper (4) and lower (6) drill strings. An upper end (22) of the lower drill string (6) is formed from a casing string (24) telescoped over the casing expander unit. A constriction (31) connects the casing string (24) with the rest of the lower drill string (6). A flow restriction device (35) in the lower drill string acts to control fluid flow through the fluid passage.

  • Patent number: 5993126
Abstract: A log bunk assembly for use on logging truck-trailer units. The bunk comprises a generally horizontal bunk beam having a recess, hub-and-saucer assembly for allowing the bunk beam and trailer/log load to pivot in the horizontal plane, an upper trunnion saddle contained within the bunk beam recess, a lower trunnion saddle, and a trunnion tube attached to a pedestal mounted on the hub-and-saucer assembly. The trunnion tube is clamped between and frictionally engages the upper and lower trunnion saddles. The bunk beam pivots about the horizontal axis of the trunnion tube in the vertical plane. The trunnion tube always remains perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the trailer/log load.

  • Patent number: 5987938
Abstract: A trailer kingpin locking apparatus, for use with a trailer having a kingpin with an annular groove, features a lock body with a cylindrical opening to receive a kingpin. A padlock channel, running transversely to the axis of the kingpin opening and sized to accommodate the body of a padlock, extends partially into the sidewall of the lock body. A shackle channel, parallel to and narrower than the padlock channel, extends inward from the padlock channel and intercepts the kingpin opening to form an opening thereinto. A retaining pin bridges the shackle channel near the kingpin opening. The locking apparatus may be slipped over a kingpin such that the shackle channel coincides with the annular groove of the kingpin. The shackle of a standard padlock is inserted into the shackle channel and around the retaining pin, with the shackle projecting partially into the annular groove and preventing the locking apparatus from being slipped off of the kingpin.

  • Patent number: 5960826
Abstract: An above-ground oil storage tank with a valve and spill containment system. The tank comprises an internal secondary chamber which is readily accessible from the exterior. The secondary chamber houses an outlet valve and may also house sample taps, electronic level indicators and temperature gauges, keeping these components protected from the elements in a warm and dry environment. The secondary chamber also contains spills from the outlet valve and sample taps and may include means to conveniently recover spilled fluid. The tank may also include overflow control means which prevents overflow of fluid from the tank and directs such fluid into the secondary chamber, and loading means within the secondary chamber.
